The 5 best yoga instructors in Montreal who make every class count

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

The 5 best yoga instructors in Montreal who make every class count

Even with YouTube videos everywhere making yoga “just a click away,” nothing beats having a real, live teacher in front of you.

You can ask questions and get adjustments tailored to your body. It’s way better than a video that keeps going while you’re flailing and gasping for air (unless you’re super disciplined with the pause button).

Lucky for us, Montreal’s got a bunch of great yoga instructors. Our team checked them out, and here are the ones we think are worth your mat space.

How much do yoga instructors in Montreal charge for their services?

Yoga instructors in Montreal typically charge CAD50 to CAD90 per hour for private sessions, while group or studio classes usually cost around CAD15 to CAD25 per session.

How we chose the best yoga instructors in Montreal

Experience: We chose instructors based on their formal training and certifications from recognised yoga schools. We looked for those who really understand anatomy, different yoga styles, and can safely guide students of all levels.
Class Size: We preferred classes that are small to medium in size so each participant gets personal attention.
Communication and Guidance: We valued instructors who clearly explained poses, provided step-by-step instructions, and offered adjustments when necessary. Those who are approachable and encouraging gained more points for us.
Pricing and Packages: We looked at the cost of single sessions and multi-class packages to determine value. We also considered whether the cost matched the quality of teaching.

What stands out about Innocere Yoga is the teaching team. They’re attentive and bilingual, so they can really explain and communicate the yoga poses in different languages.

We heard from students that they’re great at offering modifications and variations, so beginners or advanced practitioners are guided safely and effectively.

There are also a lot of class options here. The Yin and Feel & Restore classes are for those who want more mindfulness and relaxation.

Meanwhile, if you like a more physically challenging experience, there are Astanga and Navakarana Vinyasa sessions.

For anyone interested in exploring yoga beyond the basics, this variety keeps the practice engaging.

The studio itself feels calm and clean. It even has a peaceful view from the classroom that enhances that zen atmosphere.

And if you like to treat yourself post-practice, the downstairs cafe serves high-quality smoothie bowls.

Just make sure to ready your wallets. Their pricing here is more on the premium side.

Pros

  • Attentive teaching
  • Bilingual instructors
  • Offers modifications and variations
  • Wide variety of classes
  • Clea and calm studio
  • Downstairs cafe

Students and teachers are kind and always open to conversation after class

“Best studio in Montreal! I started as a practitioner and eventually started working as a teacher. I absolutely love the studio, the vibe, and the cleanliness. Students and teachers are kind and always open to conversation after class, there’s something that I haven’t felt in other studios, and I’m so grateful to be part of the Innocere community!”

Institut Yoga Essentiel prioritises depth and adaptability in yoga teaching. Their multi-level classes mean students of all ages and abilities can find a place where they fit.

This approach is reinforced by Josephone Vittoria, the founder. Her teaching style seems to be a blend of rigour with warmth.

We heard from a lot of people about her ability to adapt postures for injuries or limitations while maintaining the integrity of the practice.

Her mix of empathy and humour makes challenging poses approachable. As one person put it, she encourages progress at a safe pace. That’s great for both serious students and those returning from injury.

Beyond Josephine, the other four teachers are equally sharp with impressive credentials too.

For those with curious minds, they also explore yoga in all its glory through workshops and teacher-training programs.

On the flip side, the studio’s structure can feel a little rigid. If you’re the type who likes to hop in whenever, mix up your classes, or crave variety, their approach might feel repetitive.

Pros

  • Multi-level classes
  • Rigour and warmth in teaching
  • Excellent adaptability
  • Supports safe progress
  • Skilled and credentialed instructors
  • Offers workshops and teacher training

Cons

  • Structured format may feel rigid

I have been coming back here ever since

“I had my first yoga class here two years ago and have been coming back ever since. Andrea and Josephine are both amazing teachers. I feel deeply grateful to have encountered them so early on in my practice.”

Josephine is incredibly organised and dedicated to her teaching

“I’ve been practising yoga with Josephine for almost three years now, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. Josephine is incredibly organised and dedicated to her teaching. In my first year, she consistently emphasised the basics of each pose, explaining why we do them with great detail and patience. As we progressed, her classes were meticulously planned, with initial poses designed to prepare our bodies for more advanced postures…”

Each teacher at Luna Yoga brings energy and personality to their class. With 17 instructors, every session feels distinct.

Some classes make you laugh, others invite deep reflection. The variety is refreshing. For clients who enjoy different teaching styles, this studio offers a real playground for the mind and body.

From what we gathered, Andrea’s sessions are particularly strong. She combines expert guidance on poses with an approachable style.

Another big plus is the flexibility in how students can engage.

They offer both in-person and virtual classes, which is an advantage for those with busy schedules. Many classes are bilingual, so French speakers feel just as included as English speakers too.

We also found it unique that there’s a quick massage before and after sessions. It’s a thoughtful touch that elevates the experience.

There are, however, a few points where Luna might not suit everyone. The music is an eclectic mix, from kirtan to contemporary tracks.

Some students love it for adding energy or mood to the practice, but it can feel distracting for those who prefer silence or a more traditional ambience.

Pros

  • Unique sessions
  • Wide variety of class styles
  • Approachable teaching style
  • Offers in-person and virtual classes
  • Bilingual classes available
  • Quick pre- and post-class massages

Cons

  • Eclectic music choices may not suit everyone

She was absolutely incredible and so welcoming

“It was my first time taking a yoga class, and we were there for a session with Andrea. She was absolutely incredible, so welcoming, provided excellent guidance and teaching when it came to the poses and advice…”

The community is incredibly welcoming

“Yoga here is such a joy! Every teacher brings their own vibe; some make you laugh, others encourage reflection, and some share stories, all with personal playlists that make each class unique. The community is incredibly welcoming, and the sense of belonging grows with every visit, staying with you even when you take a break from yoga.”

Ashtanga Yoga Montreal blends traditional Ashtanga with a mindful, modern approach. They offer two main options: Mysore-style classes and AYM-teacher-led classes.

The Mysore-style classes follow the traditional sequence. It’s also for those who like to go at their own pace.

Beginners can start slowly, focus on the basics, and build gradually. Meanwhile, the more experienced students can challenge themselves without feeling rushed.

Don’t worry, though. A teacher is still always there to give adjustments, alignment tips, and the right level of difficulty.

On the other hand, the AYM classes are teacher-led, so everyone follows the same sequence. These classes mix Ashtanga with Restorative, Yin, and Vinyasa flows.

We’ve also heard how the instructors here approach yoga holistically. They incorporate breathwork, mindfulness, and restorative techniques.

One big plus is the instructors’ diverse backgrounds. Some bring knowledge of functional anatomy and manual therapy. It helps students understand how their bodies move and prevent injuries.

That said, the studio is in high demand, so regular attendees need to plan ahead to secure a spot.

Pros

  • Offers both Mysore-style and AYM teacher-led classes
  • Ideal for those who like different learning styles
  • Mysore still has teacher guidance
  • Holistic approach
  • Skilled instructors

Cons

  • High demand

The instruction has always remained exceptional

“I have been coming to Ashtanga Yoga on and off since around 2017. While I have tried other yoga studios in Montreal, I always keep coming back. The class offerings have changed a bit over time, but the instruction has always remained exceptional. Jeanne is not only an experienced and intuitive yoga instructor, but also an absolute sweetheart. She and the other instructors are welcoming and knowledgeable. Ashtanga Yoga remains one of the few studios where the instructors come around and help with adjustments, which I find so important!…”

The teachers are wonderful and very knowledgeable

“This is by far the best yoga studio in Montreal! It is a welcoming space that is accessible to all kinds of people and all levels, whether you are completely new to yoga or an experienced practitioner. The teachers are wonderful and very knowledgeable. I was so happy when I found the studio 4 years ago, and haven’t looked back since! and also did the teacher training with the studio, which I would also highly recommend.”

The founders of Yoga Yuni, Julia and Andre, have clearly sprinkled a lot of their own magic into the studio. The space is calm and welcoming, but honestly, it’s their energy that really sets the tone.

One of the strongest points about Yoga Yuni is how it balances tradition and accessibility.

They mix Hatha Yoga, Iyengar, and Satyananda for a more holistic approach. This way, they don’t just focus on the poses but also nurture the body and mind.

The classes are designed to be inclusive, with multi-level options. Beginners aren’t left floundering, while more experienced yogis get a challenging practice.

Students often mention how warm and attentive Julia and Andre are, and it’s easy to see why.

They take time to explain poses and adjustments clearly. It makes their classes approachable even for someone who’s never tried yoga seriously.

There’s also a strong sense of humour and lightness that keeps the classes from feeling intimidating.

We noticed that they really keep their classes small, which is nice since the teachers can give more attention to the students.

However, this also means scheduling can be tight, and spontaneous drop-ins might not always be possible.

Pros

  • Warm and welcoming energy
  • Holistic approach
  • Inclusive multi-level classes
  • Attentive and clear instruction
  • Light atmosphere
  • Personalised attention

Cons

  • Scheduling can be tight

They have created a beautiful space to practice Yoga

“Julia and Andre have created a beautiful space to practice Yoga. By this, I mean not just the physical environment (which is lovely) but also the energy and focus that they bring to the practice and teaching of Yoga. The courses offer a variety of options — I’ve so far tried and enjoyed the multi-level class (truly inclusive and accessible to all), meditation/restorative yoga (a real game-changer for those who want to manage their stress and get more embodied) and the intermediate/advanced class (a real workout!)…”

I definitely recommend the school

“Yoga Yuni is an amazing yoga school. I have had the opportunity to take different levels and kinds of classes with different teachers, and I have always had a great time. Julia and Andre (founders and teachers) have a lot of experience, and they share their knowledge with patience and care. Julia is also an Ayurvedic consultant. I definitely recommend the school.”
