The 12 best bakeries in Montreal that’ll satisfy your cravings
My friend, who’s a travel blogger, is planning to visit Montreal. He’s from Toronto and curious about Montreal’s bakery scene. He’s looking for recommendations.
From the buttery croissant to the flaky pastel de nata, he said he wanted to try everything as much as his stomach could. Fortunately, I’ve tried different bakeries, so I have an idea where to grab some great treats.
Based on my experience and after doing some research, I’ve rounded up some bakeries worth checking out. Read on and discover the places where breads and pastries are almost too pretty to eat.
Kouing Amann Bakery

Address: 316 Mont-Royal Ave E
Contact Details: +15148458813
Operating Hours:
- Wednesday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Saturday: 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Pricing: From $5 – $15 per person
Kouing Amann Bakery is one of the places I’ve visited when I was craving some croissants. The moment I open the door, the buttery aroma from their kitchen instantly seeps through my soul.
While the store is famous for its signature kouign amann, I couldn’t resist ordering a croissant. Their croissant has that generous almond paste inside. It’s not too sweet and has that nice texture.
Aside from that, they also have spinach quiche, croque madame, and butter cake. I also heard that their apple pie is worth a try.
Pro Tip: If you want to eat at their bakery, make sure to arrive early since they have a small seating space. |
Bernice
Media credit: bernicemontreal
Address: 5135 Notre-Dame St W o
Contact Details: +15149318444
Operating Hours: Tuesday – Saturday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pricing: $10 – $30 per person
Bernice is a type of store that’ll make you hoard bread and pastries. The reason? Their breads all smell good and look delicious.
Among the ones I tasted here, their cinnamon bun is what I love the most. It’s soft and has that sweet filling that really bursts with flavours. Their chewy cookies are equally tasty and are even generous in size.
They also offer drinks, such as coffee and iced tea. If you’re getting cookies and cinnamon buns, though, I’d recommend getting the matcha. I remember the taste helping cleanse the sweetness from the breads.
Pro Tip: Be sure to bring extra money, as their offerings are pretty pricey. |
Arte & Farina
Media credit: artefarina
Address: 1550 St Catherine St E
Contact Details: +15149998922
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Wednesday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Thursday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
- Sunday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Pricing: $10 – $20 per person
For some Italian taste, Arte & Farina is my go-to place. They have some great bomboloni here. Yes, those Italian doughnuts with fillings (like Nutella) are just right here in this Montreal bistro.
I came here with my family, and that’s when I learned they also serve Roman-style pizzas and porchetta sandwiches. It’s a bit tricky to eat, but that zesty pickled spread is worthy of the mess.
Their place is a kind of spot where you’d want a family or group to eat. They have plenty of seating and space with good music as well. This is unlike other bakeries that are more focused on grab-and-go service.
Pro Tip: Come here before or after lunch since lunch times are a bit hectic, which slows their service down. |
Guillaume
Media credit: guillaumebakery
Address: 5170 St Laurent Blvd
Contact Details: +15145073199
Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Pricing: $1 – $10 per person
Guillaume is one of the top bakeries in Montreal that uses traditional French baking. Imagine laminating doughs and preparing choux pastry? That’s what they do with their croissants and cream puffs.
This is also the reason why, from the moment I stepped into their shop, the aroma of their freshly baked bread welcomed me.
Speaking of breads, they got almost all of it. They have white chocolate mushrooms, turmeric buns, and savoury pastry. What I like the most is their sourdough bread with dates. Their cheese croissant is also worth trying and is an ideal choice for breakfast.
However, they’re more on the grab-and-go service. They don’t have seating inside, so try and find a place where you can enjoy their bread.
Pro Tip: There is no parking outside, so make sure to plan accordingly. |
Arhoma

Address: 15 Simon-Valois Pl
Contact Details: +15145264662
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Saturday – Sunday: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Pricing: $10 – $20 per person
Arhoma is a bakery that I accidentally discovered after shopping at the Super C grocery store nearby. It turns out I’ve found a spot rich in vegan croissants and chocolate croissants.
Their baguette is everything I’d hope for — crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. I paired it with their oat milk latte, and the combo was perfect. It’s creamy and has that slightly sweet coffee balance.
If you’re looking for blueberry tarts, carrot cake, and even panini, they have them here. Plus, they also got some sandwiches, including egg salad and grilled cheese.
Pro Tip: This is a popular place, so get there early if you want to taste something particular. |
Hof Kelsten

Address: 4524 St Laurent Blvd
Contact Details: +15146497991
Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pricing: $10 – $20 per person
If there’s a bakery that literally made me feel warm due to their customer service, it’s Hof Kelsten. The moment I entered the door, the staff immediately stood out for how friendly she was.
One thing I like about this bakery is that they let you taste their samples. I tasted their cinnamon danish, but I ended up ordering their cheese and spinach danish. It has that savoury kick that made my day.
They also have oatmeal cookies and baguettes, which I heard are among the favourites of many regulars. Chocolate babka, sesame seed challah, and pain d’orge are also available here.
Pro Tip: Their croissants are easily sold out, so make sure to arrive as early as possible. |
Pasticceria Alati-Caserta

Contact Details: +15142713013
Operating Hours:
- Tuesday – Wednesday: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Thursday – Friday: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pricing: $10 – $20 per person
Pasticceria Alati-Caserta is a bread shop that I didn’t get the chance to sit down and enjoy. We were in and out, just picked up their famous cannolis and marzipan cookies for an occasion.
Their cannolis are crispy and not soggy. Plus, the ricotta filling is smooth, lightly sweetened, and perfectly creamy. I noticed that they also have freshly made marzipan cookies and tiramisu, which I intend to try soon.
Although I didn’t stay long here, I liked their store. It feels like stepping into a cosy corner of Naples.
Pro Tip: The store can get busy during holidays and weekends, so be prepared to wait. |
San Pietro
Media credit: boulangeriesanpietro
Address: 1950 Rue Jean-Talon E
Contact Details: +15147221388
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Saturday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pricing: $1 – $10 per person
San Pietro is actually a long-time favourite of my dad. The first thing I tasted from this bakery was their almond cookies, which my dad took home. I received it in a box and, surprisingly, it has a lot of varieties.
I was also able to taste their cannoli personally, and the ricotta filling is just so generous. Aside from that, they also offer focaccia and square tomato pizza, both of which are affordable.
Just a heads up, though, they always have a line outside. It’s not ideal to come here if you have other errands. I recommend dropping by here after you’ve finished, since you’ll really need to wait.
Pro Tip: Try their lobster tail. It’s big enough to share with your family or friends. |
Fous Desserts
Media credit: fousdesserts
Address: 809 Laurier Ave E
Contact Details: +15142739335
Operating Hours:
- Wednesday – Saturday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Sunday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Pricing: $10 – $20 per person
I stumbled upon Fous Desserts when I was looking for a coffee shop after roaming around the nearby park. Turns out, they have a great Religuese. It has a firm yet crunchy shell and an overflowing cream filling.
The staff is also kind enough to offer a free taste of their ice cream. I’m also planning to try their chocolate pralines and their gargamel cake next.
The food here is a bit expensive compared to other bakeries, so prepare to splurge.
Pro Tip: They serve seasonal drinks, so make sure to ask before you order one. |
Sophie Sucréé
Media credit: sophiesucree
Address: 3770 St Laurent Blvd
Contact Details: +15148235865
Operating Hours:
- Thursday – Saturday: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM
- Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Monday – Tuesday: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Pricing: $10 – $20 per person
Sophie Sucréé is a bakery I tried with my friends during a day trip. One of my friends is vegan and told us to try the shop’s cranberry scone with pecans, which was surprisingly moist and flavourful.
We’re also lucky enough to get a buy-one-get-one sale on their square cakes. I got their lemon and raspberry cake, which was a bit too sweet for me. Still, the texture is soft, and it has a distinct taste.
Their cherry cheesecake, cookie croissant, and pumpkin tartlet also look yummy from their shelves.
Service is good, and it’s a welcoming small business worth supporting.
Pro Tip: Their store might look unappealing outside, but go inside and you’ll get lost in their pastry selection. |
Madeleine Pastry Shop
Media credit: madeleine_mtl
Address: 2105 Rue Beaubien E
Contact Details: +14383751952
Operating Hours: Wednesday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pricing: $5 – $15 per person
Madeleine Pastry Shop is a cute little spot with chocolate chip cookies and some desserts. I decided to go with their pistachio tart since I find it unique. It didn’t disappoint, though.
They’re also famous for their almond croissant. The customer before us ordered three boxes of it. She said she’s far from the store and that their croissant is worth the long drive.
I didn’t stay here for long since they also don’t have enough space. But overall, pricing and service were good.
Pro Tip: Their Paris Brest is perfect as a cake substitute for occasions like birthdays. |
Café Dei Campi
Media credit: cafedeicampi
Address: 6201 Rue Chabot
Contact Details: +15145630649
Operating Hours: Friday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Pricing: $10 – $20 per person
Café Dei Campi is another vegan-focused bakery in Montreal. I’m not a vegan, but I was able to try some of their signatures. I can say it’s worth recommending to my vegan friends.
For instance, their strawberry tart and vegan almond croissant are genuinely impressive. The tarts have a fresh and bright flavour, while the croissant has that texture that you wouldn’t expect from a plant-based pastry.
They have brioches, tartelletes, and chocolate chip cookies, which we’ll try the next time around.
I also learned that their menu also rotates depending on the season. This makes this bakery worth checking out, depending on their seasonal offerings.
Pro Tip: Pair any of your chosen baked goods with their espresso, and it won’t disappoint. |
