The 9 best dim sum spots in Montreal that you’ll want to visit ASAP
The first time I had dim sum in Montreal, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. A friend pointed to a few things on a cart, and before I knew it, the table was full of dumplings, buns, and little tarts.
One bite in, I was hooked.
Since then, trying out some dim sum spots on the weekend has become one of my favourite things to do. Sometimes, even my friends come with me since who would want to resist a good dim sum spot, right?
If you’re not sure where to go or want to try somewhere new, I’ve put together a list of some of the best dim sum places in the city. Keep reading–you might just find your next weekend go-to.
1. JIAO DIM SUM BAR

Address: 399 Notre-Dame St W
Contact details: +1 514-543-3148
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 5 PM – 2 AM
Price: $$
JIAO Dim Sum Bar isn’t your typical dim sum spot because it feels more like a cool lounge or nightclub. During my visit, there was a DJ playing, the lights were low, and the vibe was super lively. At first, I wasn’t sure if I was at the right place for food.
I’m so glad I went in, though, since the dim sum was really good. Everything was made fresh, and the flavours were creative. I tried the Spider Bait (soft-shell crab bao) and the truffle siu mai, and both were delicious. The Peking duck tacos were also a highlight.
Just a heads up that portions here are on the smaller side, and the prices are a bit high.
It also gets pretty loud, so don’t expect a quiet dinner. But if you’re in the mood for food, drinks, and a fun night out, this place totally works.
Pro tip: If you want to try the food without the loud atmosphere, ordering takeout might be the way to go. |
2. Restaurant Chinatown Kim Fung

Address: 1111 Rue Saint-Urbain M05
Contact details: +1 514-878-2888
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 8 AM – 3 PM, 5 PM – 10 PM
Price: $$
Chinatown Kim Fung is inside the Place du Quartier, so the vibe is super lively. It has lots of big tables, families chatting, and servers rolling around with carts full of food.
The best part for me is that I didn’t even need to look at the menu. I just waited for the cart to come by and point at whatever looked good.
For everything that I’ve tried, the har gow (shrimp dumplings) were soft and packed with juicy shrimp. One of my favourites was the cheung fun (rice noodle rolls) since they were super smooth and topped with soy sauce.
Some dishes were a little lukewarm, but honestly, that’s kind of expected with the cart-style service.
Pro tip: If you want more hot water for your teapot, just pop the lid open and leave it tilted on top. That’s the signal for a refill. |
3. Patisserie Bao Bao Dim Sum

Address: 83 Rue De la Gauchetière O
Contact details: +1 514-875-1388
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 10 AM – 6 PM
Price: $
Patisserie Bao Bao Dim Sum is a small shop inside the same entrance as Patisserie Harmonie. Just make sure to head right when you walk in.
They have tons of steamed buns with both savoury and sweet fillings, and the best part? Many are shaped like cute cartoon characters, like pandas, piggies, and even Hello Kitty. I tried the teriyaki chicken buns, and it was super juicy.
Besides buns, they also have other dim sum snacks like curry fish balls and rice balls. Prices are super reasonable, and if you buy six, you might get a small discount.
Pro tip: The lychee and classic milk tea are great options that go really well with their dim sum, especially if you’re eating spicy or savoury snacks. |
4. Restaurant Kung Fu

Address: 1202 Crescent St
Contact details: +1 514-876-8878
Operating hours:
- Monday: 11 AM – 10 PM
- Tuesday to Sunday: 11 AM – 3:30 AM
Price: $
A couple of friends and I popped in at Restaurant Kung Fu, and it turned out to be a fun and filling meal. The place had a laid-back vibe. Nothing fancy, but it’s clean and bright.
We went for the Dim Sum Combo B, which we loved because it came with a nice variety. We also had chicken fried rice, wonton soup, and salt-and-pepper pork chops. Altogether, it cost us about $70 for three people, and we were so full.
The dim sum was a bit of a mixed bag, though. The har gow were a little too soft–almost mushy–like they’d been steamed just a bit too long.
But the red chicken feet were flavourful and had that perfect sweet-salty glaze, and the fried wontons were crispy and addictive. You could tell they were just out of the fryer.
Pro tip: Go during lunch for the best deals. Their lunch specials and combo platters are a solid value. You’ll get to try a good mix of dishes at a better price compared to ordering everything a la carte. |
5. Oriental Fusion

Address: Sous-Sol, 7373 Bd Décarie
Contact details: +1 514-735-7888
Operating hours:
- Monday to Friday: 11 AM – 3 PM, 5 PM – 11 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: 10 AM – 3 PM, 5 PM – 11 PM
Price: $$
Oriental Fusion is in the basement of Kanda Sushi on Décarie, and honestly, I would’ve missed it if I didn’t already know what to look for. You walk past a regular restaurant, ignore the hostess stations, and head down a spiral staircase.
The atmosphere was super chill here, nothing fancy, but cosy and comfortable. Everything is ordered a la carte, which I loved because each dish came out fresh and piping hot. We ordered in small rounds, which worked perfectly.
It’s a good start since their har gow was the first to hit the table, and they were incredible. The wrappers were thin and slightly chewy, and the shrimp inside was juicy. But the soft shell crab dim sum was my favourite since it was crispy and indulgent.
Pro tip: Since everything is made fresh to order, don’t overload your first round. Order 3 to 4 dishes at a time, eat while they’re hot, then get a few more. It keeps things fun and gives you time to decide what else you want. |
6. Dynastie

Address: 107-1008 Clark St
Contact details: +1 514-866-2888
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 11 AM – 3 AM

Dynastie is memorable before the food even arrives. They have this cool vibe with their pastel turquoise walls, pink accents, and shiny chandeliers. It’s a step up in style from most Chinese restaurants I’ve been to, and it feels like a fun place for a night out.
I loved how their har gow didn’t need any sauce since the shrimp filling was already fresh, plump, and lightly seasoned. But the chili oil on the table added a great kick.
I also tried the pan-fried pork dumplings, which had this crispy golden base and a filling that had a bit of ginger and garlic. It was super satisfying and not greasy at all.
Their dim sum menu also had pictures, which made ordering a lot easier, especially if you’re not familiar with all the names.
Pro tip: Order multiple teas. Their jasmine tea and oolong tea are both great. Jasmine pairs nicely with seafood and lighter dumplings, while oolong is perfect for anything fried or savoury. Don’t be shy to get both, though. |
7. Tong Por Resto-Reception
Media credits: thenhanfamily
Address: 12242 Blvd. Laurentien
Contact details: +1 514-331-8883
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 10 AM – 9 PM
- Friday to Sunday: 10 AM – 10 PM
Price: $$
If you want to try dim sum for the first time, Tong Por Resto-Reception is a great place to start, but make sure to get there early. Parking is a real hassle here.
The restaurant is big, bright, and perfect for groups. My friends and I were seated quickly, even though it was busy, and the service was fast.
Right after we sat down, servers started coming around with carts full of hot dishes. You get to see what’s on each cart, and if something looks good, you just say yes, and they serve it to you right away. It’s fun and makes it easy to try a bunch of different things.
Personally, I enjoyed the siu mai (pork dumplings), which tasted very meaty, and the sticky rice in lotus leaf.
Pro tip: Plan your parking since the restaurant shares a lot with the C&T grocery store, so it gets packed. If the main lot is full, look for free street parking on nearby residential roads. |
8. Restaurant Ruby Rouge
Media credits: shutupandeatmtl
Address: 1008 Clark St
Contact details: +1 514-390-8828
Operating hours:
- Monday to Tuesday: 9:30 AM – 9 PM
- Wednesday: 12:30 AM – 9 PM
- Thursday to Sunday: 9:30 AM – 9 PM
Price: $$
Restaurant Ruby Rouge is on the second floor of a building on Clark Street, and honestly, we walked past the entrance at first. Just look for the red signage and head up the main staircase. It feels hidden, but once you’re in, you’re in for a treat.
The dining room is huge and feels like those old-school banquet halls I remember going to as a kid. Their take on har gow and siu mai is incredible. Both were piping hot, juicy, and full of flavour.
We followed with sticky rice wrapped in a lotus leaf, and I loved how it was filled with chunks of pork and chicken inside. The service was great throughout. There were plenty of refills, and the staff was quick to explain dishes if we didn’t recognise something.
Pro tip: Save room for dessert. Keep an eye out for their egg tarts, mango pudding, or sesame balls with their unique fillings. It’s worth trying them out after all the dim sum. |
9. Restaurant Impérial (Brossard)
Media credits: imperialmontreal
Address: 8245 Taschereau Blvd Local A15 & A16, Brossard
Contact details: +1 450-486-7880
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 10 AM – 3 PM, 5 PM – 9 PM
Price: $$
Restaurant Impérial is huge, so even when it gets busy, it doesn’t feel squished or loud. There’s also a waiting area with chairs, which is a small but really thoughtful touch.
My friends and I ordered through the QR code on the table, which made everything super quick. I’m used to chasing down dim sum carts, so this felt way more relaxed.
Their siu mai here is a classic done right. It’s meaty, slightly sweet, and topped with a bit of roe. I really liked that it had a nice balance of pork and shrimp, and it wasn’t overly fatty or salty.
Something that surprised me in a good way was the fried milk. This is more of a sweet snack than a typical dim sum dish, but I’m glad we ordered it. It came as these golden cubes with a super delicate, crispy shell, and the inside was a silky custard milk filling.
Pro tip: It’s easy to get carried away ordering, especially with the quick QR code system. Keep an eye on the running total if you’re budgeting. |
