The 5 best orthopaedic specialists in Montreal to keep you moving

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

The 5 best orthopaedic specialists in Montreal to keep you moving

You never know what you body might throw at you. Sometime a joint in your knee will start aching even though you’ve been climbing mountains for years without a problem.

What’s certain, though, is that you should know exactly who to call when your bones start to revolt.

If that time ever comes, there are several orthopaedic specialists in Montreal that can tell you what the problem is and how to resolve them.

Our team did the work for you to find out the best ones. Here’s the result of our research.

How much do orthopaedic specialists in Montreal charge for their services?

Orthopaedic specialists in Montreal usually charge $295–$450 for private consultations, with follow-ups around $200. Private surgeries, on the other hand, can run around $1000+.

How we chose the best orthopaedic specialists in Montreal

Qualifications: We chose specialists who are fully certified in orthopaedics, have completed reputable medical training, and hold relevant board certifications.
Patient Outcomes: We considered specialists with a strong track record of successful treatments, low complication rates, and positive recovery experiences.
Communication: We valued specialists who clearly explained diagnoses, treatment options, and potential risks. Being able to ask questions and understand their guidance is important for making informed decisions.
Insurance and Costs: We looked for specialists who are transparent about fees and accept insurance where possible.

1. Ortho Westmount

If you’re not a fan of the inconveniences of a public system, Ortho Westmount is a private orthopaedic clinic worth considering.

Their team favours minimally invasive techniques, so surgeries are generally less painful. Recovery tends to be quicker too.

They also use some of the smallest and most durable implants available. We also appreciate that they’re always looking for innovative ways to get patients moving again.

They cover a wide range of procedures—knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, total knee arthroplasty, and more.

We also liked how they explained treatment plans. It’s detailed and clear.

One thing clients also kept mentioning is that care doesn’t stop after the surgery. They follow up, and you don’t have to wait months.

That said, a couple of people did mention appointments can run a bit late, but it’s not really a dealbreaker for us.

And for those worried about the cost, income tax deductions and OHIP refunds can knock over 25% off the price, which is a nice bonus.

Pros

  • Quick access to care
  • Minimally invasive techniques
  • High-quality implants
  • Wide range of procedures
  • Clear communication
  • Follow-up care
  • Innovative
  • Cost reduction options

Cons

  • Appointments can run late

I recommend Ortho Westmount to anyone needing hip replacement surgery

“I recently had my 2nd TKR done at Ortho Westmount. The first was a little over 2 years ago. Every interaction with the team at Ortho Westmount was handled perfectly. Care does not end with the operation – they follow up. Instead of waiting a year or more to have my operations done through the public system (OHIP), they were done within weeks. At my age, time and good health are of the highest importance. I recommend Ortho Westmount to anyone needing knee or hip replacement surgery. FYI, income tax deductions and OHIP refunds reduce the cost by over 25%.”

Choosing Ortho Westmount was the best decision I could have made

“Choosing to have a double hip replacement at Ortho Westmount was the best decision I could have made. The whole experience was positive from beginning to end. Skilled, warm, friendly staff, and Dr Hart is a stellar surgeon. Highly recommend if you cannot wait any longer in the public system and you can make it work.”

Phone: +1 514-370-0661
Business hours:

Dr Adam Hart is known for hip and knee replacements, especially the tricky ones. He does complex revisions, robotic-assisted procedures, partial and total knees, and even direct anterior hip replacements.

This is someone who does a high volume of surgeries, and patients consistently report big improvements.

Some even say they regained mobility and quality of life within six weeks.

A lot of people also commented on how he treats them as individuals, not just “the next surgery.”

He takes the time to explain things properly, even though it’s obvious he has a very packed schedule.

Another strong point is how involved he and his team are before and after surgery. Patients get quick replies and regular check-ins.

There is one downside some people mentioned: private scheduling can be slow. It’s more of an administrative issue than a medical one.

Pros

  • Expert in complex cases
  • High surgical volume
  • Strong results
  • Personalised care
  • Compassionate
  • Excellent communication

Cons

  • Slow private scheduling

Dr. Hart was quick to respond

“We live across the country, and after we initially contacted the clinic, Dr. Hart was quick to respond. He is very knowledgeable, and personable, while answering any questions we had, and was able to accommodate my husband within 3 weeks…”

The whole experience was great

“Dr Hart responded personally to my first email within a short period of time. I was able to schedule my hip replacement surgery when I wanted it. Dr Hart replaced my right hip last month. I went from being in pain for two years to having no pain. I am only 7 weeks out and am recovering quickly. The whole experience was great. I will definitely go back next year to have my left hip done.”

3. Dr John Antoniou

Address: 1 Westmount Sq #820, Westmount

Phone: +1 877-352-4879
Business hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: Closed

Website

Dr John Antoniou handles a wide range of procedures—total hip and knee replacements, hip resurfacing, and even complex revision surgeries.

But beyond the surgery itself, patients really highlighted how smooth the entire experience felt.

A lot of people liked that you can start physiotherapy right away after surgery. That early start can make a big difference in recovery.

Others mentioned staying in the clinic’s recovery facility. The nursing care was attentive and the food was surprisingly good—small details, but they matter when you’re recovering.

We also kept hearing praise for Maria, Dr John’s assistant. She seems to keep everything running smoothly before surgery and helps patients feel prepared.

Some of the surgical outcomes were genuinely impressive. One patient said they felt no pain after a hip replacement and only needed Tylenol.

Another said they were on their feet the same day and back home within a couple of days.

But it’s not perfect across the board. One patient who had both hips replaced said her scars were much longer than she expected. The issue wasn’t the scar itself. It was that she wasn’t told clearly beforehand.

Pros

  • Wide expertise
  • Smooth overall experience
  • Immediate physiotherapy
  • Supportive recovery facility
  • Exceptional team support
  • Strong surgical outcomes
  • Fast discharge

Cons

  • Unclear communication about scar expectations

Dr Antoniou is so kind and actually listened to my goals/ reasons for surgery

“Facility, staff and care are amazing. Recovery has been straight forward. Six weeks post TLHR already stronger and moving better than before surgery. Dr Antoniou is so kind and actually listened to my goals/ reasons for surgery.”

I recommend Dr. Antoniou and his staff wholeheartedly

“Dr. Antoniou is a wonderful surgeon and a very kind and personable man. I had my hip replaced on Oct. 18, 2025 and am doing very well. I had no pain afterwards and only took Tylenol. The nursing and support staff were first rate and very attentive. This surgery has been life changing — for the first time in many years, I am pain free. I recommend Dr. Antoniou and his staff wholeheartedly.”

4. Dr Benoit Benoit

Phone: +1 514-331-1400
Business hours:

Dr Benoit really pays attention to detail. A lot of patients talked about how skilled he is in surgery, especially with knees and hips.

His results as precise and reliable, and many say the whole experience was far less painful than they expected.

We also loved how hands-on he is. A patient mentioned that he personally reviewed her MRI and gave her a clear and accurate diagnosis.

He tasks the time to answer every questions. Patients often said he’s always available and never made them feel rushed.

His team also seems very organised. Patients talk about getting a step-by-step instruction before and after surgery, hotel recommendations, and even being assigned their own nurse who keeps in touch during recovery.

For anyone recovering from a procedure or with mobility issues, the private transport options is also a big help.

And he works closely with physiotherapists, giving them very clear instructions to make sure your recovery stays on track.

There were a couple of small complaints—mainly that the food in the clinic was served cold. It’s not ideal, but it also isn’t something that affect the actual medical care.

Pros

  • Detail-oriented
  • Precise surgical results
  • Extremely responsive
  • Highly organised team
  • Private transport available
  • Collaborates with physiotherapists

Cons

  • A few reports about clinic food being served cold

I could not be more pleased of the first class care I received

“I could not be more pleased of the first class care I received when I had my right hip surgery done by Dr. Benoit Benoit. The constant care I received after the surgery from the assisting nurses and staff was incredible. The follow ups were great. The physio department received Dr. Benoit’s clear instructions. It is now six weeks after surgery and I feel I have a new lease on life thanks to Dr. Benoit and his Team…”

5. Dr. Mina Morcos

dr-mina-morcos

Address: 4 Westmount Sq Suite 250, Westmount

Phone: +1 514-370-5406
Business hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 8 AM – 4 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: Closed

Website

Dr Mina Morcos focusesly mainly on treating hips and knees and does it really well.

He’s skilled in total and partial replacements, patellofemoral joint replacements, arthroscopy, and even tricy revision surgeries.

He also uses robotics and custom implants, which help patients recover faster and more safely.

One patient shared that he was walking with a walker on day one, using a cane for only three days, and was over 90% functional within four weeks. It’s proof that his methods work.

He’s not just about technical precision—he’s also very personable. Multiple patients mention how kind he is right from the first meeting. He’d also make himself available throughout your journey.

Pre-surgery, he’ll answer every question and then visit again after the operation to explain the results.

The clinic also gets glowing feedback. It has all the high-tech equipment and structure of a big hospital but still manages to feel like a home.

His focus is very tightly on hips and knees, though. So if you’ve torn your shoulder or have a spine issue, we don’t think he’s the one to call.

Pros

  • Specialised in hips and knees
  • Wide variety of treatments
  • Advanced technology
  • Safer and faster recovery
  • Proven patient outcomes
  • Very personable and approachable
  • Modern and equipped clinic

Cons

  • Not ideal for shoulder or spine injuries

I cannot express such gratitude and admiration I have for Dr. Morcos

“What a great experience it was to go to Montreal and meet with Dr. Morcos for my mom’s hip replacement. I cannot express such gratitude and admiration I have for Dr. Morcos. He has such a wonderful talent and extreme kindness. I would highly recommend him for his surgeries. Him and his entire staff are very professional and I can honestly say they were a pleasure to work with. Keep up the good work.”

Doctor Morcos and his staff were excellent in every way

“Doctor Morcos and his staff were excellent in every way ! I never used a walker or Cain from day three. I went to Rehab at the hospital here in Halifax just 4 times and they said I was Wasting my time because I had 95% full movement just a week after my surgery…”
