How much is the tuition fee for private schools in Montreal?
On average, the tuition fees for private schools in Montreal are $37,889 per year. However, the final cost may change depending on the school’s reputation, facilities, and programs offered.

How We Chose

Reputation and accreditation – We considered the school’s overall reputation within the community and its accreditation status to ensure it meets recognised standards of quality.
Faculty and staff – We looked at the qualifications and experience of teachers and staff to ensure a supportive and enriching learning environment.
Facilities and resources – We considered the school’s facilities, libraries, technology resources, and overall learning environment.
Tuition and financial aid – We factored in tuition costs and the availability of financial aid programs to provide a range of options for families.
Parent and student feedback – We gathered insights from current and former parents and students to gain firsthand perspectives on the school experience.

With its roots dating back to 1962, Collège Ville-Marie has clearly mastered the art of evolving with the times. We couldn’t help but admire how it caters to such a diverse group of students, each with their own unique needs and aspirations.

The academic programs really stand out here. Whether you’re an athlete aiming for the Sport-études program, an artist interested in the Arts-études program, or someone with a global mindset aiming for the International Baccalaureate (IB), there’s a place for you here.

And these aren’t just empty promises – the facilities are cutting-edge. We’re talking about modern science labs and interactive classrooms that adapt to different learning styles. They even have dedicated spaces for things like e-sports and outdoor sports.

We also really appreciate the financial support they offer through the Aurelius Foundation-Daoust. It’s refreshing to see a school that genuinely wants to make education accessible for all families, regardless of their financial situation.

We also have to highlight their e-sports program. They have an impressive set-up, with high-performance computers and immersive virtual environments.

Pros

  • Diverse academic programs
  • Innovative e-sports program
  • Cutting-edge facilities
  • Financial accessibility
  • Convenient website

Cons

  • A few reports of authority being misused

“I love this school! I’ve been there for 4 years now and honestly, it’s by far the best. Teachers adapt and vary their teaching techniques for their students. After spending some time on Villa Maria College’s campus, chatting with students and staff, and even doing a little shopping at their virtual store, we can say that this school definitely deserves its spot on our list.

One of the things that immediately impressed us was their focus on bilingual education. We could see how this would not only give students a serious academic advantage but also really prepare them to navigate the unique cultural landscape of Quebec.

The school’s specialised academic profiles also caught our attention. We loved that they’ve built their curriculum around areas like Health Science, Law, STEAM, and even Entrepreneurship.

Of course, we can’t talk about Villa Maria without mentioning its gorgeous campus. Seriously, the fact that this historic building was once home to the Governor General of Canada is a major wow factor. You can tell that the beautiful setting adds to the school’s overall positive vibe.

And let’s not forget the convenience factor – they have a virtual store that we found incredibly handy. Families can easily grab school uniforms, supplies, and other essentials online, making the whole experience seamless.

Pros

  • Specialised academic profiles
  • Historic and inspiring campus
  • Convenient virtual store
  • Bilingual education

Cons

  • Competitive admission process

Preserves a significant piece of Montreal’s history

“The school possesses a complex of beautiful and interesting 19th and first half of 20th century buildings. One of them, the Monklands residence built in 1803, was the official residence of the Governors Generals from 1844 to 1849, when Montreal was the capital of the Province of Canada.”

Founded in 1905,  Saint-Nom-de-Marie is an all-girls boarding school that has managed to stay true to its roots while offering an impressive range of specialised programs.

We especially like how they’ve partnered with top-notch institutions, such as the École supérieure de ballet du Québec for its Danse-études program and the Vincent-d’Indy School of Music for Musique-études. It’s definitely one of the best places for those passionate about arts.

What really caught our attention, though, is their focus on sustainable development. They’ve earned a Level 2 ÉCORESPONSABLE certification – the first school in Quebec to do so. This shows how deeply integrated environmental responsibility is to their operations.

Another program we thought was particularly impressive is their Être et devenir initiative. This program is all about shaping well-rounded individuals who can excel both in and out of the classroom.

We also really liked their event space. They offer room rentals that are perfect for conferences, workshops, or any special occasion.

Pros

  • Specialised arts programs
  • Sustainability commitment
  • Être et devenir program
  • Event space rental
  • Virtual tour

Cons

  • Single-gender environment

Engages students even during challenging times

“I was 12 years old when I went to the PSNM for a few years. I loved every minute of it although when I was a rebellious kid the last thing I wanted was to be there. I will never forget sister Monique nor sister Hugette.”

4. The Priory School

Location: 3120 The Boulevard, Montréal, QC H3Y 1R9, Canada

Contact: +1 514-935-5966

Website

Established in 1947, The Priory School is clearly doing something right. What we really loved is their whole philosophy – “Happy Children Learn Best”. This just shows that they also put value in the kids’ well-being and not just academics.

When we visited, we could see how they put this into practice. The classes are small, which means each kid gets a ton of attention.

They have solid programs in all the basics, like French, math, and science. But they also make sure to pay lots of attention to art and music for the kids who are passionate about them.

Another thing that impressed us was their approach to faith. It’s a Catholic school, but they welcome kids from all backgrounds. They teach respect and acceptance, which is so important these days.

We’re just a bit iffy about the $50 application fee being non-refundable. However, we do have to admit that their application process is super convenient as it can be completed entirely online.

Pros

  • Convenient application process
  • Welcoming environment
  • Inclusive philosophy
  • Small class sizes
  • Strong curriculum
  • Tutoring services

Cons

  • Non-refundable application fee
  • Limited grade range

Fosters an endearing and heartwarming environment

“The Priory School is such an endearing and heartwarming little school. At The Priory, the teachers focus on being responsive and equitable to the individual needs of each child. The staff and faculty truly take the time to get to know the children as well as their families. My daughter has had such a positive experience setting the foundation of language and literacy in both French and English. My daughter’s positive feedback is a true testament to the teachers’ passion and dedication to the children’s learning! As a parent I feel valued, respected, and supported within the environment of this school! Looking forward to spending many more years being part of this caring community!”

Offers a strong curriculum in a loving and caring environment

“The Priory School is the most lovely elementary school you can think of. Not only do they offer a very strong curriculum, their motto is ‘Happy Children Learn Best” and they practice what they preach: the school and their fantastic faculty and staff offer the students such a loving and caring environment – I truly believe it is why my kids are so happy to go to school every day and develop so well. My oldest graduated last year from the school and could pick any highschool; they are all very happy to have Priory students. Another thing I like a lot about this school is the parent community being so warm and welcoming as well as being very diverse.”

With a history dating back to 1861, The Sacred Heart School of Montreal has a long tradition of educating young women. Their focus goes beyond academics, aiming to nurture confident and compassionate leaders who value social justice and personal growth.

We were impressed by their range of academic programs, including Advanced Placement courses that can help students earn college credits. Another highlight is their strong emphasis on the arts, with excellent programs in drama, music, and visual arts.

The school’s global network is another unique advantage. They offer opportunities for international exchange and a broader perspective on global issues.

We also really appreciate the convenience of their application process, which can be completed online. This is a huge plus for busy families.

On top of that, they offer financial aid through their bursary fund, and there’s no set minimum income to apply. This refreshing approach makes quality education more attainable.

  • Financial aid accessibility
  • Easy application process
  • Global network

Cons

  • Single-gender environment
