The 5 best psychotherapists in Montreal for effective sessions
When I first started therapy, it took me a few tries to find the right fit. Some sessions felt flat, others didn’t click at all. But eventually, I found a therapist who truly helped me build clarity and resilience—and that made all the difference.
Because of that journey, I know how frustrating it can be to go through the process alone. So I teamed up with my colleagues to do the legwork.
We researched, compared, and gathered recommendations. From there, we put together a list of Montreal psychotherapists who stand out for their compassion, professionalism, and proven results.
How much does a psychotherapist’s service cost in Montreal?
A psychotherapist service in Montreal typically ranges from $120 to $180 for a 50-minute session, depending on the therapist’s specialization, experience, and location.
How we chose the best psychotherapists in Montreal
1. Montreal Therapy Centre

Address: Reception – Office, 2100 Marlowe Ave 2nd Floor, #216
Phone: +1 514 244 1290
Business hours:
- Mon-Thu: 9 AM – 8 PM
- Fri: 9 AM – 5 PM
We like Montreal Therapy Centre’s wide range of services. One thing we especially like is their focus on creative art therapies. They offer art, drama, and music therapy that combine creative expression with psychotherapy.
What’s even better is that their team consists of over 90 therapists with various specialities. They have therapists who are skilled in individual therapy, family therapy, and many more. This makes it easy to find someone who fits your needs.
Additionally, we’re very impressed with the number of languages they use. With 17 languages, they can cater to a range of people who speak only one language. Aside from English, they have therapists who can speak in French, Spanish, and Arabic.
Their sliding-scale pricing is probably what clients appreciate most. Fees are adjusted according to income, which means people on tighter budgets still have access to quality mental health care.
The only minor flaw in their operation is that they’re unavailable on weekends.
One can’t ask for a better experience!
“The Montreal Therapy Centre is truly the best and most cost-effective option for continuing education and for anyone looking to get OPQ registration after moving from another province to Quebec. They have an amazing team of professionals and supportive staff who guide you every step of the way and make the entire journey so much smoother. I highly recommend them to any therapist or mental health professional wanting solid supervision, practical training, and genuine support while navigating the OPQ process. One can’t ask for a better experience!”

5 stars!
“I’m sure there are many competent therapists in Montreal, but I was extremely fortunate to get connected recently with a therapist that I clicked really well with! The entire process of meeting a therapist was easy and quick. The online application process was smooth, and the delay to meet a therapist, 4 weeks in my case, was pretty good based on the longer wait times I was met with elsewhere. It seems like a really efficient operation from start to finish, and the location in NDG is perfect for me. 5 stars!”

Address: 3535 Bd Saint-Charles Suite 700, Kirkland
Phone: +1 514 696 0948
Business hours:

West Island Therapy & Wellness Centre has one clear advantage over competitors— longevity. With over 24 years of experience, they’ve earned a level of trust that comes from consistently helping people achieve mental wellness.
Another highlight is their extensive services. We’re especially drawn to their couples therapy. They help partners overcome communication, trust, and intimacy issues through personalised treatment plans.
Another great thing about them is that they’re available seven days a week. This is beneficial for busy people who prefer to take sessions every weekend.
Clients we spoke to also appreciated how compassionate the therapists are. One particular woman told us that her therapist truly “stepped into her shoes” and offered perspective when life seemed dark.
However, they’re very in-demand within and even outside the city. So, contact them as soon as possible if you want to avail of their services, as they’re always fully booked.

Highly recommend
“I recently attended a menopause-focused event for women, and it was truly an incredible experience. The atmosphere was safe, welcoming and comfortable, which made it easy to relax and openly discuss important topics related to this phase of life. From start to finish, the event was very well-organized, offering valuable insights and support. The speakers were compassionate and knowledgeable, creating a space where everyone felt understood and supported. I left feeling empowered and better informed about how to approach my own menopause journey. Highly recommend it for any woman navigating this journey!!!”

3. RISE Anxiety & Depression Clinic

Address: 4465 Sources Blvd, Roxboro
Phone: +1 514 232 6445
Business hours:
- Mon-Sun: 9 AM – 9 PM
If someone you love is struggling with depression, anxiety, and other stress-related issues, we recommend RISE. They focus on evidence-based, scientifically supported therapies, which give us confidence in the quality of their care.
When it comes to their services, they offer dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), hypnotherapy, and more. They provide many specialised forms of psychotherapy that help people manage emotions and regulate behaviours.
We’re also big on their online programs. They have depression, relationships, and self-sabotage programs, which are very convenient for busy people who can’t do in-person sessions.
Another strength is how quickly you can get started. You can opt for same or next-day appointment, so there’s no long waiting time needed.
That said, some clients we spoke to experienced unpleasant behaviour from their receptionists. One of them told us that she felt that the receptionist she encountered wasn’t enthusiastic in assisting her.
An absolute gem
“Rise clinic is an absolute gem. My friend was really struggling and they helped her out so much. They were extremely accommodating, they were able to get her in for an appointment whenever she was in a crisis and needed the support. The staff is also very empathetic and knowledgeable, and they really care about their clients overall well-being and success. I feel very grateful to know that my friend was well taken care of by them and have helped her so much.”

My experience has been very positive
“I’ve had the opportunity to work with Robert over the past few months, and my experience has been very positive. The team is professional, compassionate, and truly invested in their clients’ well-being. The clinic environment is calming and private, which helps foster a sense of safety and I appreciated the flexibility with scheduling and the emphasis on evidence-based practices. If you’re looking for a supportive and non-judgmental space for personal growth or to work through mental health challenges, I would definitely recommend Rise clinic.”

4. The Wellness Collective Centre

Address: 1310 Ave Greene Suite 630, Westmount
Phone: +1 514 889 8922
Business hours:
- Mon: 8 AM – 8 PM
- Tue-Thu: 8 AM – 9 PM
- Fri: 8 AM – 7 PM
- Sat: 9 AM – 5 PM
- Sun: 11 AM – 7 PM
For those experiencing trauma, the Wellness Collective Centre is worth considering. They’re trained in eye movement desensitisation and processing (EMDR). It’s a specialised form of psychotherapy that helps people recover from traumatic events.
We like how they guide patients through bilateral stimulation, where you recall disturbing memories while following a therapist’s finger with your eyes. This has helped many recover from traumatic memories, thoughts, and feelings.
We also like that they offer more than just trauma support. Individual, couple, and family therapies are all available.
What impresses us most is their willingness to step outside the office. Their home and school support let them evaluate issues in real time, work with teachers and build personalised plans that can actually make a difference.
The only drawback is that they have a relatively small team. This means you need to wait for weeks or even over a month to speak to one of their therapists.
Amazing and kind
“Bianca Pungartnik is amazing and kind, she’s helps people really get in touch with themselves. She’s very thoughtful and cares a lot. I hope everyone gets to experience time with her for the simple fact that she’s a wonderful person and can help you see you through her eyes. She empowers you to go forward in life with a smile and helps you look forward to living your life. I spent some of my worst days with her and left her company feeling understood and valued as well as heard and appreciated. I would even say she gave me great life lessons and advice on how to problem solve and so much more. I could never have saw myself looking to someone for guidance until I met her.”
-Bree Cook, Google Review
I would highly recommend her services
“As an old colleague of Bianca’s, I would highly recommend her services. She has the ability to connect with individuals in a quick way that lets you get straight to the work. Bianca knows how to build a relationship and I have watched children, teens and young adults improve week after week and come in excited for their sessions. She is a wealth of knowledge and constantly looking to improve her practice, staying up to date with the latest resources and information relating to the field. With her ability to take on a wide range of needs, I was always sure of her being able to put clients on the right path!”

5. Dr. Danny Gagnon

Address: 1310 Ave Greene Suite 760
Phone: +1 514 605 7610
Business hours:
- Tue-Wed: 8 AM – 9 PM
- Thu-Fri: 8 AM – 6 PM
People we spoke with consistently describe Dr. Danny Gagnon as genuinely helpful. One person even said that Danny helped him by phone during a panic attack for free. That kind of compassion is rare.
We really like that he offers extensive self-help toolkits. His carefully made, downloadable handouts and worksheets could help many at least have a little idea of what they’re experiencing.
We’re also impressed with his acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). It teaches patients ways to stop fighting with their inner negative experiences.
Through ACT, he has helped many have a meaningful life, even when they have unpleasant thoughts and emotions.
He’s also highly proficient in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). Through his help, many of his clients suffering from anxiety and depression happily told us that their mental health improved.
That said, he operates alone. He doesn’t accept many clients at the same time so that he can fully focus on each person, so his availability is very limited.
Wonderful and warm approach
“Danny made sure every week to make me feel welcome. I was a little low at times and he still made sure to make feel like I was important. He helped me understand and channel my anger. Something I struggled a lot with. I see that what I’ve learnt, I’d currently being applied in my friendships and relationships. I was provided with great tools and examples. He makes you do at least some homework which is amazing! I had him about a year ago. Wonderful and warm approach.”

His authenticity was a huge plus
“Dr. Danny Gagnon completely changed my opinion on cognitive behavioural therapy, I felt completely hopeless prior to seeing him. His tools and guidance allowed me to re evaluate my perspective and method of thinking in a way I never thought imaginable. I am honestly living my best life now thanks to Danny. His authenticity was a huge plus for me in his desire to genuinely want to see his clients get better rather than just racking up a bill. If you are willing to put in the work to change, Danny will give you absolutely everything you need to be the person you want to be.”
