The best architects in Montreal to elevate your space

In a city brimming with architectural gems, it’s easy to get lost in the beauty of the buildings themselves. But behind each stunning structure and innovative design is a talented architect with a vision.

And today, we’re shining a spotlight on those visionaries – the best architects in Montreal.

From the grand masters to the rising stars, this is your chance to get to know the people shaping the city’s architectural landscape.

How much do architects charge in Montreal?

On average, architects in Montreal charge $250 per hour. However, the final cost may change depending on the scope of the project and the architect’s experience.

How We Chose

Portfolio Variety – We evaluated each firm based on the diversity and quality of their previous projects. This is to make sure they offer a range of styles from modern designs to historic restorations.
Client Feedback – We looked into client testimonials and reviews, focusing on satisfaction with design processes, communication, and final outcomes.
Innovative Approaches – We considered how each firm integrates sustainability, functionality, and innovation into their architectural solutions.
Project Scale – We included architects who handle both large-scale commercial projects and personalised residential designs to cover different client needs.

Lemay has been around since 1957, and let’s just say their experience shines through. They have a multidisciplinary approach with a team of 400 architects, designers, and industry professionals capable of handling anything.

What really caught our attention is their Net Positive™ strategy, which prioritises sustainability while making spaces that are both functional and stunning. They blend design with care for the environment—something not everyone achieves as well as they do.

From high-profile projects like the Four Seasons Montreal to the urban revamp of the Royalmount complex, their versatility is impressive.

And while they’re known for their big, eye-catching projects, we appreciate how they also cater to smaller and eco-friendly residential builds.

A few clients mentioned some delays. But overall, Lemay’s commitment to innovative, sustainable design has left us impressed.

  • High-profile projects
  • Versatility

Cons

What we appreciate most is their focus on sustainability and their deep commitment to dialogue in every project. Whether it’s urban design or an interior makeover, they ensure the final result reflects the client’s vision.

Their standout project, La Géode in Plateau Mont-Royal, didn’t just catch our eye. It also earned Canada’s first LEED v4 Platinum certification for multi-residential buildings, highlighting its impressive environmental efforts.

Stands out as a hidden gem in Montreal

“Montreal’s well-kept secret, it is difficult to find architects with such an authentic approach.  Their achievements speak for themselves but it’s when you have the chance to chat with Jeff, Frank or a member of their team that you realise that you are in front of exceptional people.  Creativity is undoubtedly their most valuable weapon.”

La Shed is all about turning tricky spaces into something truly special.

For instance, they take on even the most challenging layouts, like the Lagarde House. They transformed a narrow lot into a bright, multi-level home that feels surprisingly spacious.

What really stands out is their attention to customisation. They work closely with clients, making sure every detail fits their needs and lifestyle.

We were especially impressed by their award-winning projects like Maison de Gaspé, which beautifully balances modern design with Montreal’s historic charm.

They also offer interior design, which is a great bonus if you’re looking for an all-in-one service.

Guillaume Lévesque has a real talent for blending the old with the new, and it really shows in projects like the Alexandre-de-Sève Town House.

We love how he transformed a 19th-century duplex into modern, multi-unit housing while keeping those charming original elements like the brickwork and slate tiles.

But what really sets him apart is the sleek, contemporary extension he added – large windows and minimalist design that just works.

Beyond designing, his team is involved every step of the way. They oversee everything from technical construction advice to site supervision, ensuring your project is in good hands from start to finish.

Plus, they’re known for staying on budget, which is always a win in our book.

That said, a few clients did mention they expected more detailed plans. But overall, we were happy with the creativity and care put into every project.

  • Stays within budget
  • Creative and detail-oriented approach

Plans major renovations and creates intergenerational properties

“We have used the services of Guillaume Lévesque on a few occasions. A first time to assess the economic value of a site that we wanted to develop in the Rosemont district. The second opportunity to plan major renovation work on a rental building in Mile-End and for the design of an intergenerational property in the northern suburbs of Montreal. Guillaume and his team listen well and have demonstrated their flexibility, know-how and creativity during our three projects. Guillaume Levesque architect is a firm that you should consider if you want your buildings to stand out.”
