The 8 spots that offer the best fried chicken in Montreal
I don’t know about you, but fried chicken always brings me back to my childhood. There’s just something about that crispy bite that instantly reminds me of simpler times.
Now that we’re all out here adulting and dealing with life, sometimes you just want a little taste of those good old days. So whenever I’m feeling a bit nostalgic, I round up a few friends and we go on a fried chicken hunt around Montreal.
Here are some of the best spots we’ve tried. Trust me, they hit the spot every time.
1. Poulet FOU et Frit

Operating hours:
- Monday: Closed
- Tuesday to Thursday: 12 PM – 8:30 PM
- Friday: 12 PM – 9:30 PM
- Saturday: 12 PM – 10:30 PM
- Sunday: 12 PM – 8 PM
Price: $$
Our team got the 10-piece fried chicken combo at Poulet FOU et Frit. Even after spending a bit too long taking photos, we noticed how crunchy the coating stayed. Inside, it was still hot and tender.
The spicy version called “Proton Pop” was our personal favourite. It’s got a proper kick, but not the kind that ruins your day. If you went for the combo like we did, you can mix the regular and spicy chicken in your order.
Everything’s halal too, which makes it an easy pick when you’re with a mixed group. Prices were fair, especially for the portion sizes.
Pro tip: Pair your fried chicken with their Filipino-style spaghetti. It’s on the sweeter side, but the combo works surprisingly well. |
2. DaWa Chicken Restaurant (NDG)

Address: 6135 Sherbrooke St W
Contact details: +1 514-508-3665
Operating hours:
- Monday: 11:30 AM – 9 PM
- Tuesday: Closed
- Wednesday to Sunday: 11:30 AM – 9 PM

In DaWa Chicken Restaurant (NDG), their fried chicken is made fresh to order, so you’ll get them crunchy and warm.
We tried both boneless and bone-in to taste which is better, but they’re both delicious in their own ways. It’s a matter of preference for our team.
You can get your chicken plain or sauced. We went with spicy, honey mustard, and sweet soy. We liked that you can mix and match styles and sauces with the half-and-half option for those who want more variety.
We visited again after a while, and just like before, the service was chill and friendly. They’ll help you figure out your spice level or sauce game if you’re new.
Pro tip: The sauces are great, but they can soften the crispy coating if the chicken sits too long. If you like your fried chicken crispy, request sauces on the side. You can dip or drizzle as you go. |
3. COQCOR

Address: 1237 Guy St
Contact details: +1 514-508-1144
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday: Closed
- Friday to Saturday: 11:30 AM – 10 PM
- Sunday: 11:30 AM – 9 PM
Price: $$
COQCOR has a bright space, K-pop on the screen, and a call button on each table so you don’t have to awkwardly wave for service. Staff were friendly and quick, which we appreciated because we came hungry.
We got the 3-flavour chicken combo—original, sweet & spicy (gang-jeong), and soy & garlic. All three were crispy, juicy, and coated in sauce that’s very balanced in their own ways.
The combo came with a pile of sides and a drink. It includes rice, japchae noodles, fried dumplings, and slaw. Everything was fresh and tasty.
Although the prices were a bit steep if you’re just getting chicken on its own, the combo provides excellent value for money.
Pro tip: They give disposable gloves at every table, so use them. You’ll thank yourself when your phone’s not covered in garlic soy glaze. |
4. Les Crazy Chickens

Address: 3532 Notre-Dame St W
Contact details: +1 514-800-3019
Operating hours:
- Monday to Tuesday: 12 PM – 9:30 PM
- Wednesday: Closed
- Thursday: 12 PM – 9:30 PM
- Friday to Saturday: 12 PM – 10 PM
- Sunday: 12 PM – 8 PM

Les Crazy Chickens is just a small space but full of personality. It has trippy black and white cartoon-style walls that have the same vibe as a comic book. It’s a great spot for photos, but also (of course) for the fried chicken.
We ordered the Montreal combo, which comes with wings, drumsticks, tenders, and fries. It tastes like the perfect Korean-style double-fry, which is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Most of the chicken was tender and hot upon serving too.
The sauces are tasty, but there’s not enough of them. If you’re a dipper, you’ll probably need more, and that’ll cost you $4 extra per portion.
We also suggest getting their fries. They’re fresh, crispy, and a great pair for your fried chicken.
Pro tip: Mix your sauces for better flavour layering. Try the soy garlic with hot and spicy for that sweet, salty, and spicy. Another great mix is honey mustard with garlic for something more mellow but still punchy. |
5. Mon Petit Poulet (ST-LO)

Address: 6776 St Laurent Blvd
Contact details: +1 514-273-0730
Operating hours:
- Monday to Wednesday: 11:30 AM – 8 PM
- Thursday to Saturday: 11:30 AM – 9 PM
- Sunday: 12 PM – 8 PM
Price: $$
Mon Petit Poulet’s fried chicken is served in big portions. It has juicy boneless meat and a thick, crispy coating that stays crunchy. The seasoning is full of flavour, and the brown sauce that comes with it pairs really well.
We tried both the regular and a spicy version they were offering, and both were excellent. The meal also comes with fries, coleslaw, and some tasty house-made sauces.
Service here is also exceptional. The owner was friendly, and the whole crew was welcoming. Our waiter even recommended that we get a shared platter, and it was the right decision.
Pro tip: If you’re craving something besides fried chicken, go for the buffalo chicken sandwich and wings combo. The sandwich is massive and satisfying, while the wings give you a nice side of heat. |
6. Icehouse

Address: 51 Rue Roy E
Contact details: +1 514-439-6691
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 5 PM – 10 PM
- Friday to Saturday: 5 PM – 11 PM
- Sunday: 5 PM – 10 PM
Price: $$
Icehouse offers the double-fried chicken, but we only ordered a half bucket (five pieces). Looking back, we probably should’ve just gone for the full ten. Each piece had a crispy crust that audibly crunched when we bit into it.
The sweet and spicy sauce had us licking our fingers. It’s got just enough heat to make things interesting, but the sweetness balances it perfectly. For the sides, it comes with coleslaw and potato salad.
The coleslaw is fresh and crunchy, not drowning in mayo, and it pairs well with the richness of the chicken. The potato salad, though, got mixed reactions from us. Some of us found it too plain. Not bad, just forgettable.
Pro tip: Don’t skip the bourbon lemonade. This drink is one of their signature items here. It’s light, citrusy, with a gentle bourbon kick. If you’re sensitive to alcohol, ask the staff to make it lighter on the bourbon or request a small taste first. |
7. Jack Le Coq
Media credits: restojacklecoq
Address: 618 Rue Jarry E, Villeray
Contact details: +1 514-474-7777
Operating hours:
- Monday to Wednesday: 11 AM – 12 AM
- Thursday: 11 AM – 3 AM
- Friday to Saturday: 11 AM – 4 AM
- Sunday: 11 AM – 12 AM
Price: $$
Jack Le Coq has a fun retro-diner look, which really helped their branding be cheeky and laid-back. Even at 10 AM, it was already packed when we visited. Good news that the service in this branch is very fast.
We tried a bit of everything—classic tenders, spicy “Rouge Feu” red tenders, wings, and several sauces. Everything was hot, fresh, and crispy. We loved that the tenders have a crunchy coating that doesn’t get soggy.
The red tenders are for spice lovers. One of us powered through with the spicy honey dip, which was sweet, spicy, and weirdly addictive. You’ve got nine sauces to play with, and honestly, they’re all amazing.
Pro tip: Ask for the sauce sampler so you can mix and match as you go. Our team’s favourites were the Jack Sauce, Spicy Honey, Creamy Ranch, and Buffalo. |
8. Freakin’ Poulet

Address: 6530 Somerled Ave
Contact details: +1 514-379-4516
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 11 AM – 10 PM
Price: $
Right away, we noticed how crunchy Freakin’ Poulet’s chicken was. Inside, it was tender and moist, not dry like you sometimes get with thick cuts. There’s also a subtle kick from spices, probably with a bit of Indian influence, which gives it more character.
The real MVP for most of us was the fried chicken sandwich. It comes with a thick, crispy chicken breast inside their brioche bun with cheddar, pickles, and their house sauce. The sauce is kind of like a mild spicy mayo—creamy and a little tangy.
We also tried the Nashville hot version. Of course, it was spicy, but it still let the seasoning shine through. If you’re unsure about spice levels, the staff are super helpful and can guide you to the right choice.
Pro tip: Don’t be afraid to explore the rest of their menu. The fries are seasoned with herbs and are always fresh. If you want something heartier, try their mac & cheese with butter chicken. One order of this is good for two people already. |
