The 13 best breakfast brunch spots in Montreal (We’ve tried them all!)

When it comes to brunch, Montreal doesn’t mess around. There are places where the most heavenly pancakes are made and where the world’s best coffee is served.

But there are soooo many options, and let’s face it – if you’re waking up early and spending up to $50 upwards per meal, you’ll want to make sure you dine with only the best and the tastiest.

Our team has done the very hard work of tasting and testing (yes, multiple rounds of sampling – so hard!) to bring you a guide to Montreal’s best brunch spots.

If you’re curious to find more new fave locations, check out our list!

1. Dandy

Website: http://dandymtl.com/

Address: 244 Rue Saint-Jacques

Contact details: +1 514-289-9996

Operating hours: Monday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Price: $$

Dandy offers a big breakfast brunch menu with options that include both sweet and savory dishes.

One standout dish here is the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich. It’s served on a soft brioche bun that complements the crispy, juicy chicken perfectly.

It also comes with a side of mashed potatoes, which are golden and crunchy on the outside but soft inside.

If you prefer a sweet kick, their Ricotta Pancakes are fluffy and light, so you can go stack after stack to your heart’s desire. The Maple Latte is usually the best match for this, though you’d probably enjoy this more when it’s iced.

It tastes more like maple candies than maple syrup, so you’ll really enjoy that solid flavor while eating.

Just take note: there’s a bit of a wait during Sunday mornings, so plan accordingly!

2. Pub Wolf & Workman

Website: https://www.wolfandworkman.com/

Address: 139 Saint-Paul St W

Contact details: +1 514-737-1787

Operating hours: Monday – Friday: 11:30 AM – 1:00 AM | Sunday – Saturday: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Price: $$

Pub Wolf & Workman is a charming pub in Montreal that combines traditional English fare with its cozy, almost homey atmosphere. If open, their outdoor patio is a great option to soak in the surroundings – you can even enjoy this during winter as it’s heated as well.

One of the top recommendations is their signature Scotch egg, which has this crispy coating that gives way to a perfectly soft-boiled egg inside. Pair it with their marvelously creamy mezze platter, and we think your day won’t be any better!

For a heartier brunch option, try the chicken pot pie, which comes highly recommended by regulars. The presentation is on point, with a golden, flaky crust encasing tender chicken and vegetables in a savory gravy.

The portions are generous, so the dishes are perfect for sharing if you’re there with friends. We recommend offering a different meal per person so you can try out many options.

3. Larrys

Known for its high-quality dishes, Larrys offers an a la carte brunch menu where you can mix and match small plates to your heart’s content. You can opt for their simple scrambled eggs and mushrooms combo.

For coffee lovers, Larrys has a little perk – order a drip coffee, and they’ll keep refilling it. Plus, their flat whites and espressos are amazing, as they can pair well with any meal.

If you’re planning a visit, the outdoor patio is the perfect seating during sunny days or in the afternoon. Just be prepared to wait a bit on weekends when the place fills up, though you can grab a drink nearby to help pass the time.

4. Régine Café

Operating hours: Monday – Sunday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Régine Café is a breakfast lover’s dream! The decor here is super charming and is actually reminiscent of a quaint European café.

However, it’s the food that steals the show.

The Oeuf et Boeuf is an absolute must-try. It features these ultra-tender braised beef cheeks on an English muffin topped with a velvety hollandaise sauce.

For something a bit lighter, you can opt for the Doré d’été. It has brioche, blueberry jam, and fresh berries. It’s sweet but not overwhelming, so it won’t drown the taste of your coffee!

While you’re here, don’t miss out on the Lechon and Waffles. The pork belly has a perfect balance of crunchy skin and tender meat.

It’s complemented by a spicy maple syrup that ties everything together. The waffles themselves are airy and cake-like!

Another favorite is the tocilog, which is a traditional Filipino breakfast that has marinated pork tocino served with garlic rice and a fried egg. Theirs come with a side of pickled papaya, which gives the meal a tangy texture.

To top off the experience, try their refreshing calamansi juice for that authentic Filipino experience.

If you want a big meal, you can’t miss their latke smorgasbord. With this option, you get a crispy latke, perfectly scrambled eggs, and homemade bread that’s soft and fresh.

Pair it with a rich, aromatic coffee to complete the experience, and you’ll see why the lines are always long!

Speaking of lines, you’ll see how a lot of patrons say it’s worth it despite the long wait. Plus, the food arrives quickly once you’re seated.

However, the wait can be longer than expected sometimes, especially during the early hours on weekends. But don’t let that deter you – the food is worth it!

Their panko french toast is crispy on the outside with a soft, fluffy interior. Paired with fresh fruit and a dusting of powdered sugar, it’s the perfect sweet treat to start your day.

They also have the beloved foie gras poached egg, which includes two perfectly poached eggs atop a generous portion of foie gras. To keep it simple, opt for the restaurant’s signature bagels – you can’t go wrong with that!

If you’re lucky enough to snag a seat, you’re in for a treat with their fresh takes on brunch classics.

When it comes to the food, Olive et Gourmando does not disappoint.

Their ricotta and honey toast strikes a perfect balance of sweet and savory. It has this creamy, lightly sweetened ricotta topped with a drizzle of honey that hits all the right notes.

No trip to Olive et Gourmando would be complete without sampling their pastries. From blueberry scones to almond croissants, each pastry is made fresh with just the right amount of flakiness. Their triple chocolate biscuit is our favorite!

Pair any of these with a creamy latte or mocha latte for a perfect start to your day. Speaking of, the coffee here is on another level – rich, smooth, and just the right amount of boldness to balance the sweetness of the pastries.

It’s best to arrive early or make a reservation because the café tends to fill up quickly, especially on weekends.

The salmon and spinach feuilleté is one of the best brunch options. It’s a flaky pastry topped with creamy béchamel sauce and a sunny-side-up egg.

Their pastries are also not to be missed, especially the cinnamon buns on Saturdays and the buttery Breton shortbread. Both of these are best enjoyed with their signature lattes or cappuccinos (note: the café even sells its beans).
