5 best dementia care services in Montreal to support your loved ones
Letting someone take care of your parents is already tough, but it gets even harder when they need extra support, like specialised dementia care. That’s exactly what my family went through when our mom started showing signs of dementia.
We had to think about everything—from whether she’d wake up confused and scared to making sure someone was always there to comfort her and help her feel safe.
If you’re in the same boat, we totally get it. That’s why we’re sharing some of the dementia care services we came across in Montreal while searching for the best fit. Hopefully, this list helps you find a place that feels right for your family, too.
How much do dementia care services cost in Montreal?
Dementia care services in Montreal can cost around $2,400 to $8,000 per month. Usually, live-in caregiving with dementia services are at the lower end, and residential facilities with specialised dementia care units are at the higher end.
How we chose the best dementia care services in Montreal
1. Homecare Solutions Montreal

Address: 140-2222 René-Lévesque Blvd W
Phone: +1 514-933-4141
Business hours:
- Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
Every caregiver at Homecare Solutions Montreal gets special training from the Alzheimer’s Society of Montreal.
We’re impressed by this because they know how to handle the hard and emotional stuff that comes with dementia, like mood swings or memory lapses. They also know how to talk to someone with memory issues in a gentle way.
What’s also great is that they don’t just focus on the person with dementia. They support the whole family too.
They coach family members on what to say or do during tough moments, which happen a lot. Instead of leaving families to figure things out on their own, they give them real advice that makes a difference.
Their flexibility and responsiveness also came up a lot. Families noted how quickly the team adjusted care plans or stepped in with backup when a primary caregiver couldn’t make it.
It seems to be their strength. They stay in touch, take feedback seriously, and make changes quickly when needed.
Although you have to remember that they don’t operate their own residential facility, what they do is send trained caregivers to the client’s home.
Super professional, pleasant, helpful
“Really thankful to have found this team. Super professional, pleasant, helpful. I was going to have minor surgery and needed someone to join me and help me get home afterwards. Having my friends or family do it would have just stressed me out. Also, the person they sent to help me was a student nurse who knew the medical system, so she was very calm the whole time, which helped me feel less stressed. I wanted to leave a review so other people who need this kind of help can more easily find it. It seems Montreal doesn’t have many services like this.”

We feel so much safer allowing him to stay in his home with this extra care
“Our family has been going through a roller coaster of emotions trying to get my father assistance in his home. We have now had help for the past 6 months from the Homecare Solutions team, it’s a life changer. My father is a lot happier, and we feel so much safer allowing him to stay in his home with this extra care.”

2. The Key

Address: 4464 Ste. Catherine West
Phone: +1 514-613-5819
Business hours:
- Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
The Key focuses on helping people with dementia stay independent and feel comfortable at home.
Instead of sending any caregiver, they create a care plan based on the senior’s lifestyle and habits. We approve of this because staying in a familiar routine can help reduce confusion and bring emotional comfort.
They offer both hourly care and live-in care, which gives families some flexibility depending on how much help is needed.
We especially liked how their live-in care model works. Caregivers don’t actually live with the patient permanently, but instead rotate in structured shifts (one caregiver for 4 days, another for 3).
Their hiring process is thorough too. Caregivers go through background checks and even take a psychological screening to evaluate traits like kindness.
They also run special programs like the Cognitive Therapeutics Method, which keeps the brain active through games, conversation, and mental exercises. We liked that besides the basic needs, they also focus on mentally engaging their patients.
That said, they’re not a residential facility. So if your loved one needs intensive medical supervision or shows severe behaviour changes, they may not be the right fit in the long term.
They made a significant difference in my grandmother’s daily life
“I can’t say enough good things about TheKey. They provided exceptional care for my grandmother, who has Parkinson’s. The caregivers, Krista and Sharo,n were so patient and caring with grandma. They made a significant difference in her daily life. Communication with the office team (Dominique and Nikita) was excellent, and they were always responsive to our needs and schedule changes. I highly recommend them to anyone seeking quality home care!!”

I would recommend TheKey if you’re looking for care for your loved ones
“We used TheKey for my uncle, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s. The caregiver was exceptional and helped my aunt out a lot when she needed to leave the house. I would recommend TheKey if you’re looking for care for your loved ones!”

3. Chartwell Belvédères de Lachine résidence pour retraités

Address: 3000 Rue Notre Dame, Lachine
Phone: +1 438-819-8467
Business hours:
- Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
We liked that Chartwell Belvédères de Lachine’s memory care unit is on its own floor. You can really tell that it’s built specifically with dementia in mind.
They have no-slip floors, easy-to-read signs, and layouts that make sense to someone who might feel disoriented. It’s fully secure too, so no wandering off.
The building is just a five-minute walk from a lake and a senior centre. We’re not sure how much the residents get to go outside, but it’s nice to have those options nearby if outings are part of the routine.
When we spoke to families, we kept hearing how attentive the staff are, which we think is thanks to their high staff-to-resident ratio. A lot of them are also trained in dementia-specific techniques, like gentle redirection and validation therapy.
Care here is personal. They do a full assessment when someone moves in—medical needs, cognitive stuff, social preferences. Then they use that info to build a care plan that sticks as closely as possible to the person’s old routines.
That said, the cost might be high for some families. But if you’re looking for full-time specialised care in a well-run place, many feel it’s worth the price.
The staff are friendly and hard-working
“The residence is spacious, clean and bright. The staff are friendly and hard-working. Energetic, upbeat activity coordinators provide stimulating activities. In the care unit, for residents who require assistance such as dementia care, they emphasise movement, walking and exercise, which has been great for my Dad. The residence is nicely situated on a quiet street in Lachine. Within a 5-minute walk from the residence, there are beautiful views of the lake and the Teapot 50+ Centre ( a community centre with additional activity groups for seniors).”

My father was always treated with respect, dignity, and care
“The Belvederes building itself is comfortable, well-equipped, and provides key services for residents, but more importantly, the people who work there are friendly, caring, and compassionate. My father resided at the Belvederes since 2009 and was always treated with respect, dignity, and care. The staff has always taken the pandemic seriously and has been diligent about putting safety measures into place quickly and keeping residents and the families of residents well-informed. I have always felt confident about the care my father received there.”

4. BethCare Senior Services

Address: Monkland and Beaconsfield
Phone: +1 514-487-9496
Business hours:
- Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
Beth Care’s approach is very personalised. Care plans aren’t just based on diagnosis and medication. They’re shaped around a person’s routine, cultural values, and even their preferred language.
One family told us their mother was matched with a caregiver who spoke her native language. It seems like caregivers don’t just look after their patients—they also try to build a real connection with them.
They’re also big on maintaining structures. Caregivers follow a steady routine with meals, meds, memory games, and other activities to help keep the day calm and predictable.
The staff are also carefully hired. Background checks and multiple interviews are part of the process. Plus, they keep learning about dementia-specific care after they’re hired.
What’s even better is that they share this knowledge with the families. They teach what’s going on and offer tips for dealing with tricky behaviours.
They’re also quick to arrange, so it’s a huge help in emergencies when no one’s able to stay at home and care for your loved one.
Just keep in mind that they don’t run a care home. They send caregivers to wherever the client lives. That works well for many families, but might not be ideal if your loved one needs round-the-clock care in a residential facility.
I wholeheartedly recommend BethCare
“We were referred to BethCare through a friend who had used their services for their mother, and I am so grateful for that referral. We used BethCare for overnight caregiving of our father, who spent several nights in the hospital due to advanced dementia. Knowing that someone caring and capable was there with him was comforting and allowed my siblings and me to get some rest through a very difficult period. They were also able to arrange for care very quickly (same day), which we had not expected. I wholeheartedly recommend BethCare.”

I felt much better leaving my mother every evening in their care
“I recently hired BethCare Senior Services to take care of my mother during an extended stay in the Glen Hospital. The caregivers who stayed with my mother, who suffered from dementia, were a godsend to me. I felt much better leaving my mother every evening in their care…knowing that she was fed and that her medications were provided on a timely basis. All three caregivers were warm and caring. I would not hesitate to recommend Beth Care Senior Services.”

5. La Residence Sheppard et James

Address: 5700 Victoria Ave #202
Phone: +1 438-814-2379
Business hours:
- Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
La Residence Sheppard et James takes their tailored care planning seriously. Each resident’s plan is created with input from both family members and medical professionals.
We kept hearing from families how kind, compassionate, and engaged their staff is.
One family described how their mother, despite being unaware of her surroundings, consistently expressed that she was doing well. For us, it’s a subtle but powerful indication about how emotionally comforted she must have felt here.
Cleanliness and organisation were also repeatedly mentioned. In fact, even the paramedics who came to take patients to the hospital commented on how well-kept the residence was.
Their staff are trained specifically in dementia care. They know how to handle behavioural complexities that come with this condition.
It’s also reassuring that they have access to nurses, physicians, and pharmacists to help manage their health. However, despite this, we don’t know for sure how well they can support those with very advanced dementia.
One family eventually had to move their loved one to a CHSLD (a government-run long-term care facility) because her needs had progressed.
They had a good experience at Sheppard et James, but it seems the facility—despite its strengths—may be best suited for those in the early to mid stages of dementia.
The team at Sheppard and James did everything they could to support her
“…My mother’s level of dementia was quite advanced, and the team at Sheppard and James did everything they could to support her stay there for as long as possible…”

The staff is always caring and attentive to each person’s needs
“This residence for seniors, especially with cognitive issues, is a wonderful place. The staff is always caring and attentive to each person’s needs. The owners and staff are on top of any issues that arise with my mother, which is very comforting. Always welcoming and inviting.”
