How We Reviewed

Fabric Variety: We evaluated the depth of available fibres, weaves, and material weights. Shops that stock everyday apparel textiles alongside specialised materials scored higher.
Pricing Accessibility: We checked how well each shop balances bulk value with small project cuts. Clear pricing units and sensible cutting minimums help keep your budget steady.
Project Supplies: We looked for notions, sewing tools, and finishing hardware under the same roof. A solid store provides needles, threads, and zippers alongside its core fabric bolts.
Community and Guidance: We reviewed the assistance and creative support provided to shoppers. Stores earned extra points when staff helped demystify patterns or host welcoming group events.

This is the place to go in Montreal
I visited Tissus today and could not have been more impressed. The store is very clean and the fabric is displayed very nicely. There is a fabulous selection of imported, high quality fabric and the staff could not be more attentive. Omar spent a lot of time helping me and his knowledge and kindness were outstanding. If you are looking for a vast selection, excellent service, and knowledgeable assistance, this is the place to go in Montreal.

Found me two fabrics that were absolutely perfect
I was in Montreal for the day and I found this great fabric store online. I was after natural fabrics to make pillow cases from. The staff took their time to find me two fabrics that were absolutely perfect and were able to explain the pros and cons of the different materials. I would highly recommend this store!

Website: https://cmtextiles.com/
Address: 7500 Saint-Hubert Street
Contact: (514) 272-0247
Hours: Monday–Saturday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM

Dramatic runway styles and stylish home accents come together at C&M Textiles. The shop carries beautiful bridal fabrics like lace, silk, and organza, along with a wide range of upholstery fabrics.

We spoke with a client who visited here to compare velvet swatches for custom dining cushions. They said the staff helped them choose several durable textures and gave useful advice on matching appliqués and beaded trims for special events.

Registered trade clients can also get perks like swatch samples and special discounts. For a made-to-measure outfit, talking with custom-made tailors before buying can help you choose the right material and quantity.

Sadly, they close at 5 p.m. on weekdays and stay closed all day Sunday, so evening fabric runs aren’t possible.

Pros

  • Bridal and couture fabrics
  • Upholstery fabric options
  • Helpful trim-selection advice
  • No minimum purchases for eligible trade clients

Cons

  • Closes at 5 pm
  • Closed on Sundays

Customer Reviews

The fabrics are breathtaking, the selection extraordinary
I just want to say how much I love C&M. The fabrics are breathtaking, the selection extraordinary, and the help and guidance nothing short of spectacular. Peter guided me through the process of making pillows for my sofa, reupholstering my dining room chairs (magnificent) and some other family antiques. His taste, his encyclopedic knowledge of fabric and design, and perhaps most of all his genuine care make shopping at C&M not only a delight, but a guaranteed success for any decorating project. I dream in fabric now. Thank Peter, thank you C&M. Til next time.xo Suzi

Absolutely fantastic experience at this branch of Fabricville!
Absolutely fantastic experience at this branch of Fabricville! I entered in completely clueless to what type of fabric I needed, and was lucky enough to speak with Marie-Eve! She not only knew the exact type of fabric I required, but was extremely polite, patient and professional. This place is fantastic based on my interaction with her!

There is nothing that we have not been able to find at Fabricville
We required materials for prototyping and model building, up until now there is nothing that we have not been able to find at Fabricville, from elastic ribbons to plastic buckles and very specific types of fabric, they will have it, also they have a huge parking lot and are situated besides the Namur Metro station which makes it very convenient in case you want to beat the traffic. Great place overall!

4. Tonitex Inc.

tonitex-inc

Website: https://tonitex.com/en/
Address: 9630 Boulevard Saint-Laurent
Contact: (514) 389-8293 | Toll-free: 1-800-361-8916 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM

Scoring warehouse-style fabric bargains doesn’t require a commercial registration at Tonitex Inc. This shop sells wholesale-style fabrics directly to the public, so you don’t need a business number to shop there.

The selection includes apparel fabrics, technical materials, and upholstery options. For smaller projects, walk-in shoppers can buy cuts as small as half a metre, which makes it easier to stay within budget.

The shop also separates regular-stock fabrics from limited lots, helping you plan ahead if your project might need more of the same material later.

However, each fabric requires a 10-metre minimum when ordering online, which isn’t practical for small home repairs. If you only need a few metres, visiting the store in person makes more sense.

Pros

  • No business number required
  • Half-meter in-store cutting minimum
  • Regular-stock and limited-lot options
  • Apparel, upholstery, and technical fabric options

Cons

  • Strict 10-meter online minimum per fabric

The best selection of fabric was here

I went as a tourist from Ontario because I heard the best selection of fabric was here. Camille helped me, and they were so professional, knowledgeable, and really attentive to my needs as a customer! I’ll definitely be making the trip back to Tonitex, especially if Camille is working!

Website: https://craftdeville.com/
Address: 2065 Rue Parthenais, Studio 274A
Intercom/Buzzer: 557
Contact: (514) 836-6199 | [email protected]
Hours: Thursday–Saturday, 12:00 PM–5:00 PM (Other pickup arrangements may be available by contacting the shop)

Quilters and bag crafters will find a welcoming home base at Craft de Ville. This speciality shop focuses on modern quilting cottons, garment- and bag-weight fabrics, and supplies for creative projects.

We spoke with a client who visited the studio during a weekend session, and they said Stacy gave them helpful tips on choosing the right interfacing weight for a tote bag.

Selected fabrics are available in fat quarters and half-yard cuts, so you won’t have to buy extra fabric for small accents. The studio also hosts community Crafternoons where you can bring your projects and work alongside other crafters.

The biggest hurdle is the limited walk-in access. Their studio is open to walk-in shoppers only three afternoons a week, so you’ll need to plan your visit carefully.

Pros

  • Modern quilting cottons
  • Small project cuts on selected fabrics
  • Project advice on-site
  • Community crafting events

Cons

  • Regular walk-in shopping only three days a week

Such a fantastic selection of haberdashery and fabrics, simply wonderful
I would give even more stars if I could. Yes, it was a little hard to find, but it was well worth the effort. Such a fantastic selection of haberdashery and fabrics, simply wonderful. The service was first-class, wonderfully open and friendly. I will definitely shop there again.

An example of one of the many incentives to shop local small business because they care
Very sweet people run this lovely shop! I easily found everything I needed for my embroidery project at fair prices!! What made my experience even more memorable was that I ordered a flour sack for pick up but didn’t notice there were options for white or écru and they made sure that I was aware in case I wanted to make the choice, I found that very thoughtful and an example of one of the many incentives to shop local small business because they care !!!
