How We Reviewed

Flavour Authenticity: We looked for balanced salty, spicy, sour and sweet flavours across traditional dishes and plant-based interpretations.
Ingredient Variety: Great cooking brings together vegetables, proteins, herbs and sauces that give each dish its character. We compared the ingredients and combinations featured in the restaurants’ signature dishes.
Menu Range: A memorable spot should offer regional specialities alongside standard noodle staples. We evaluated places that showcase northern-style dishes and plant-based protein choices.
Dining Atmosphere: Comfortable seating and attentive hospitality elevate any dinner outing. We considered different dining formats, from casual meals to date nights and private group dinners.

1. Noir Thai

Address: 224 Rue Milton
Contact: (514) 844-8888 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday–Tuesday, By Appointment; Wednesday–Saturday, 12:00 PM–3:00 PM and 5:00 PM–9:30 PM; Sunday, 12:00 PM–3:00 PM and 5:00 PM–9:00 PM

Stepping into Noir Thai brings a fun modern twist to Thai food, led by their signature Noir Pad Thai with squid ink and giant shrimp. The dark, silky noodles have a rich savoury flavour and look striking on the table.

You can also customise the heat on spicy dishes like Pad Kra Pow, including a mild zero-spice option.

We spoke with a client who recently shared their experience trying the crispy fried chive cakes with a friend. She said the sweet dark soy dipping sauce was incredible.

For meat lovers, there’s tangy tom yum soup with chewy egg noodles or soft rice noodles. Tofu lovers have plenty of options too, including fragrant red curry with zucchini and sweet potatoes.

Unfortunately, the kitchen closes daily from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., so late lunch isn’t an option.

Pros

  • Signature squid-ink Pad Thai
  • Customisable spice levels
  • Steamed or fried chive cakes
  • Tofu and red curry choices

Cons

  • Daily afternoon kitchen closure

One of the most authentic Thai restaurants I’ve tried in Montreal

As a Thai person, I can honestly say this is one of the most authentic Thai restaurants I’ve tried in Montreal. Every dish was delicious, and the Pad Thai was exceptional — flavorful, well-balanced, and truly reminded me of home. The Som Tum and other dishes were equally impressive. If you want to experience genuine Thai cuisine, this is definitely a place worth visiting. Highly recommended! 🇹🇭❤️🍜

Has become my favorite in the city

This family-owned Thai restaurant recently opened and has become my favorite in the city. The food is truly authentic and satisfying. The atmosphere and service is welcoming and warm. They were also very accommodating and attentive to my girlfriend’s gluten-free diet restriction. Had the papaya salad, spicy wings, and pad thai which were absolutely delicious. The thai milk tea was also the best I’ve had in the city.

Our group of four had a great meal and enjoyable time.

The best Thai Food I’ve ever had (aside from Thailand)

INSANEEEE Thai Food. Every dish was packed with flavor and I was blown away by the texture and flavor of the duck. The peanut sauce in the dumplings was so good, we were scraping the sides to finish it. Would HIGHLY recommend. Dare I say, the best Thai Food I’ve ever had (aside from Thailand).

Flavourful, delicious, and lots of great options

Surprisingly walked past this 100% plant based restaurant in Montreal and knew we had to try it!

Flavourful, delicious, and lots of great options – we tried the Kao Kra Pao (with the powders they provided it was spicy and great flavour) and the chai-yo sandwich 93 which was also great! Thai iced tea to go with our meals.

We would’ve come back again if it wasn’t our last day in Montreal. Will be back for sure!

The best Thai restaurant outside of Thailand

The best Thai restaurant outside of Thailand (and I lived there for over a year). So good we went back thrice during our 4-day stay in Montreal. Very generous portions of delicious food and the staff was very kind as well. Green curry was my go-to meal during monsoon season in Thailand and theirs did not disappoint! Not going there would be missing out, I have no doubt you will love it.

If you love Thai food, you’ll love this restaurant

…I went to this restaurant last month for my birthday. I had never been there before, so it was a risky choice for dinner out with all my friends, but we were NOT disappointed! The servers were very kind, the food was all AMAZING (green curry, crispy pork with greens, pad see ew…it was all perfect), and to top it all off, they brought out a delicious treat “on the house” for my birthday, enough to share with the whole table. We were all thrilled with the evening. If you love Thai food, you’ll love this restaurant.

Elevated dining shines at Bistro Ona, which offers a modern bistro atmosphere with seafood favourites like Chu Chee fish and fried rice loaded with crab claw meat.

Their Chu Chee pairs fish or shrimp with red coconut curry, herbs, and vegetables. We spoke with a regular patron at the bar, and he said the spicy basil beef was a favourite. He also praised the evening drink service for being quick.

You can also choose from separate lunch specials and full dinner menus, making it easy to plan a casual meal or date night. Delivery through major apps is available, too, when you’d rather stay home.

As a Thai person, I really enjoyed my experience at this Thai restaurant

As a Thai person, I really enjoyed my experience at this Thai restaurant 🇹🇭!! The staffs are very welcoming and friendly PLUS they spoke Thai, English, and French, which made me feel very welcome and reminded me of home.

The food felt authentic while still being adapted to suit different tastes. We ordered Chicken Satay, Fried Chicken, Chicken Siam Red Curry, Chicken Stir-Fry with Peanut Sauce, and a Papaya Salad with 5 chilies that brought the spicy kick I was looking for…

Northern regional specialities take centre stage at Khao Soi Restaurant Thai, with chicken and beef versions of their northern-style noodle bowls. This regional focus gives you a reason to look beyond your usual Pad Thai order.

Their Chiang Mai tom yum bowls come with fish balls, shrimp, or chicken. If you prefer dry noodles, try the brothless egg noodles with delicate chicken wontons.

Salads add even more variety, from Thai and Isaan papaya salads to beef namtok. Plus, you can pair Panaeng chicken or beef with jasmine rice or noodles.

However, vegetarians should be cautious with the restaurant’s signature northern dishes. Both headlining bowls contain chicken or beef, so you shouldn’t count on a meat-free version without checking first.

If you’re looking for a fully plant-based meal, ask about available options before ordering.

Pros

  • Northern-style chicken and beef noodle bowls
  • Brothless egg noodles with chicken wontons
  • Thai and Isaan papaya salads
