Got a head for business? A head for the arts? A head for… well, just a head? It doesn’t matter! In today’s world of social media and online profiles, everyone needs a killer headshot.

Lucky for you, Montreal is overflowing with amazing photographers and picture-perfect locations, just waiting to capture your best side. With the right lighting, even your less-than-best angles can look great!

So, let’s ditch the awkward school photo vibes and dive headfirst into the best spots in Montreal to get your mug looking magnificent.

How much does a headshot cost in Montreal?

On average, the cost of headshots in Montreal is $200. However, the final cost may change depending on the number of retouched photos, the photographer’s experience, and any special requests you might have.

How We Chose

Quality of Photography – We prioritised studios known for producing crisp, high-resolution headshots with professional lighting and composition to ensure you always look your best.
Experience of Photographers – Our selection focuses on photographers with years of experience in portrait photography, especially in creating polished, business-ready headshots.
Range of Services – We considered places offering a variety of options to cater to different needs. This ranges from simple headshots to full branding packages.
Customer Reviews – Positive feedback and testimonials from clients were key in identifying studios with a reputation for professionalism and delivering great results.

We’ve got to say, MTL Headshots really knows how to tailor their packages to suit different needs. Whether you’re revamping your LinkedIn profile or elevating your personal brand, they’ve got you covered.

We love that their pricing starts at $175 for a full hour in the studio. This already includes three retouched, high-resolution images.

And if you’re in a time crunch, their “Lite” option is a lifesaver. It takes just 15-20 minutes and includes one retouched image.

What really set them apart for us was their attention to detail in both posing and direction. They ensured we felt relaxed and confident during our session, especially since being in front of a camera isn’t really our favourite thing.

We appreciated their flexibility too. They offered everything from formal business looks to casual and laid-back styles, ensuring we could match our vibe.

Plus, the online booking system makes things super smooth – though heads up, they’re in high demand, so availability can be tight.

Pros

  • Well-tailored packages
  • Competitive pricing
  • Flexibility in session styles
  • Easy-to-use online booking system

Cons

  • Limited availability due to high demand

It’s worth noting that his headshot sessions are on the pricier side, starting at $220 plus tax for an hour of shooting. But you do get unlimited wardrobe changes and one retouched image, with extras available for $75 each.

Photo Tab Studio brings a lot to the table, and it’s clear they’ve thought of everything because their space is packed with all the essentials. This includes an infinity background, 3D lighting, and top-notch cameras from Nikon, SONY, and Canon.

One of the things we liked is how they keep things budget-friendly. They have packages starting at just $60, so getting professional photos doesn’t break the bank.

Their Signature Shoot at $350 is a solid deal if you’re after something more in-depth. With over 100 poses and 12 retouched images included in the package, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from for a polished final look.

What we appreciated even more was their flexibility. Unlike many studios that stick to indoor shoots, Photo Tab lets you take it outdoors or even pick your own location.

This is a game-changer if you’re looking for photos that really reflect your personality or brand. Some clients did mention they had to wait for a few details to be finalised, but overall, their versatility really stood out.

  • Caters to various photography needs

Cons

  • Some clients noted delays in finalising details

Tam Lan Truong, the talent behind Tam Photography, really brings a creative edge to headshot sessions. What we love most is how his background in classical music photography adds an artistic flair to every shot.

When we visited his studio in the Plateau, we immediately felt the relaxed vibe. It’s the kind of space where you can comfortably spend 2 to 3 hours trying out different looks and moods.

Talking to a few clients, they all mentioned how at ease they felt during the shoot. Even those who said they were not used to being in front of a camera felt comfortable during the shoot. This echoes the experience we had.

Truong’s approach focuses on keeping things natural. He even encourages clients to skip the heavy makeup, preferring to capture a more authentic, professional look.

We really have to give it to him for keeping retouching minimal, so you end up with photos that truly feel like you.

Just a heads-up though; due to his popularity, booking can be a bit tricky. We suggest locking in your spot early.

Pros

  • Relaxed studio in the Plateau
  • 2-3 hour sessions for varied looks
  • Natural and minimal retouching

Cons

  • Limited availability due to high demand

Guides clients to express themselves naturally

“Tam is an outstanding photographer with a keen sense of how to capture the perfect moments, particularly for musicians. He took photos for both of my doctoral conducting recitals, and I’m very pleased with the results. I also had a great experience with my promotional photo shoot. Tam is incredibly kind and knows how to guide his clients to express themselves naturally in front of the camera. His pricing is fair, and overall, I had a very positive experience working with him. Highly recommended.”

Delivers stunning portraits with unforgettable candid shots

“We’ve been acquainted with Tam’s work and himself for about 10 years now and knew we’d be happy with the result. He is friendly, smiling, proactive, superbly professional and truly moves so quietly, one forgets he’s there. His portraits are gorgeous but hiss candid shots are why we knew we wanted thim to get the contract for our wedding.”

Studio Photo Rose has been around since 1990, and their decades of experience really show.

What we appreciated most about them was their personal touch. They focused on capturing our best look and minimising any flaws while keeping our natural expressions intact.

Plus, they offer some cool extras like photo restoration and video transfer services, so you can take care of a bunch of different needs in one go.

Their offerings extend far beyond headshots too. They also specialise in family portraits, graduation photos, and even passport and visa shots.

However, if you’re a professional trying to make a lasting first impression, their business portraits are definitely worth checking out.

Despite the positives, we did hear from a few clients who felt rushed and said the service could’ve been friendlier.

  • Offers a wide range of services
  • One-stop shop for various photography needs

Cons

  • Some customers mentioned feeling rushed during their sessions

“I went here to take a passport-sized photograph. The lady was very courteous and friendly. In fact, she offered me a discount of 3 CAD. The customer service here is top-notch. I recommend Studio Photo Rose for all your photo needs, especially if you are within Decarie blvd, Queen Mary.”

Romanus Abia, Google Review

Exceeds expectations after past disappointments

“I’ve been in Canada for almost six years and have had disappointing experiences with two other photo studios, where my photos were rejected and sent back to me. However, a friend recommended PhotoRose, and I must say they exceeded my expectations! They went above and beyond to help me and ensure I was satisfied with their service. The customer service I received was 100% exceptional. I highly recommend PhotoRose!”
