Turn ideas into hits at the best recording studios in Montreal
Home recording is great… until you realise your “studio” doubles as the laundry room, and the microphone stand is a wobbly tower of books.
We’ve been there, and let’s just say the results were far from radio-ready. If this sounds familiar, it might be the time to swap the DIY chaos for some professional-grade magic.
That’s where the city’s top recording studios come in. Whether you’re laying down your first track or polishing up a full album, these spots have the gear, the expertise, and the vibe to bring your music to life.
So, say goodbye to the blankets-fort vocals and hello to the studios that’ll make your sound truly shine.
How much does it cost to rent a recording studio in Montreal?
Renting a recording studio in Montreal costs $20 to $33 per hour for smaller spaces. The more advanced setup can cost up to $250 per day. However, the final price may change depending on the studio’s equipment and the specific needs of your project.
How We Chose
1. Studio Base Bin
Location: 4275 Rue Frontenac
Contact: +1 514-281-1547
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday – 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM
Studio Base Bin might just be the kind of place where creativity takes centre stage—but it’s not without its quirks.
When we visited and spoke with Albert Chambers—the mastermind behind it all—it was clear he’s not just passionate about music but dedicated to bringing every artist’s vision to life.
We learned from conversations with a few clients that the personalised setups are a significant draw. Albert has a knack for zeroing in on the specific sound each artist seeks.
The studio’s services are undeniably extensive. They cover everything from rehearsal spaces and full-scale recording sessions to video production and post-production.
The tech setup is equally impressive. Their 42-input British Midas console and SSL converters had our team’s audio nerds geeking out.
And we must admit that their attention to sound quality really shines through most of their work.
However, not everything was pitch-perfect. A couple of artists we interviewed mentioned some inconsistencies in their recording process. For example, one track was recorded with a different microphone than in an earlier session.
Creates an enjoyable and inspiring atmosphere
“Wow! This place is a 5-Star music facility all the way. I came from Las Vegas to rehearse here for a couple days, and was blown away by the high quality standards here. The staff was so knowledgeable, friendly, with everything perfectly in order. I had such a great time and productive rehearsals. Can’t wait to return. Keep rockin’ over there and be back soon! Michael.”

Simplifies booking and payment with an online system
“Really great studio! Our band was in town for Pouzza and we needed a place to practice early in the day. I was able to book and pay online, the staff was friendly and helpful. It was so easy and the room was excellent. Lots of space, good equipment. If I need to practice in MTL again I’ll definitely book this studio.”

2. Studio-365
Location: 365 B Rue Beaubien O
Contact: +1 514-271-3343
Operating hours:
- Tuesday to Saturday – 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM
- Sunday – 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Studio-365 feels like one of those spots musicians keep returning to—and for good reason. When we visited, the setup clearly focused on functionality without the frills.
Each of their three rooms is equipped with the essentials. They feature a drum kit, bass amp, and everything you need to dive into your music. It’s a no-nonsense, ready-to-go environment that makes you want to plug in and start jamming.
The soundproofing also gets a thumbs up from us. It’s effective enough to focus entirely on your music without distractions.
We also love the studio’s emphasis on convenience. Whether you’re short on gear or prefer to travel light, the rental options—guitars, amps, and even drumsticks—let you show up and get straight to work.
One band shared that they always book this studio because it’s reliable and affordable. That’s a rare combination for rehearsal spaces in town.
But like any well-loved place, Studio-365 isn’t perfect. Some of the equipment is beginning to show its age. In fact, a few musicians mentioned amps that don’t always deliver the expected power.
Provides a variety of room sizes for individual and band needs
“Awesome spot with a friendly, knowledgeable owner! Very reasonable prices, especially with the high quality equipment in each of the rooms I’ve used. Variety of room sizes to suit individual/band needs.”

Provides a well-soundproofed space
“I’m putting 5 stars simply because the experience was nice, and I’m damn sure returning. Our portuguese host is so kind, generous, and hard working. Does his best to make sure we have everything we need. The prices we’re designated from small room, medium room and large room for 10$, 13$ and 15$/h. They’re steps ahead from the competition. Perfect Jam space, sound proofing on point, great place to jam, have a couple beers and play it out. Cheers to the portuguese host!”

3. Planet Studios
Location: 6555 Av. Papineau
Contact: +1 514-728-4449
Operating hours: Open 24 hours
Planet Studios is the heartbeat of Montreal’s music scene. Spending time there clarified why it’s been a staple for over two decades.
Walking through their expansive 14-room facility, the energy was undeniable. From the vintage equipment to the modern upgrades, this place feels like a haven for creativity.
We even spoke with the staff and artists who’ve worked here. The consensus is clear that this studio is where serious musicians come to create magic.
Each studio offers unique features, and we were lucky to step into a few. Studio 1 stood out with its newly renovated control room with cutting-edge technology and sleek design.
The studio also features a 7.1.4 Atmos setup with PMC monitors and a Yamaha C7 Grand Piano. This combination creates a space that seamlessly blends advanced technology with artistic elegance.
Studio 2 kept the wow factor going with its SSL 4000G+ console and impressive outboard gear to keep even the pickiest producers happy.
What really impressed us was the flexibility. Planet Studios operates 24/7, making it easier to act on those late-night bursts of inspiration.
But don’t let the round-the-clock availability fool you—this place is in high demand. When we spoke to a few regular clients, they all stressed the importance of booking well in advance.

“The studio offers excellent acoustics, high-quality microphones, and top-notch equipment. The warm atmosphere and well-equipped mixing consoles provide everything needed for a seamless recording experience. Communication with Serene was seamless, and Adam offered outstanding support throughout the session. 10/10 would recommend… and we’re looking forward to our next session!”

4. MakeWay Studios
Location: 760 Decarie Blvd
Contact: +1 514-358-5900
Operating hours:
- Monday to Sunday – 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM
MakeWay Studios feels less like a recording studio and more like a creative command centre. Walking in, you get the sense that every corner of the place is built to bring artistic visions to life.
The acoustically treated rooms are impeccable, and the gear is truly top-tier. With microphones and interfaces that go beyond capturing sound, they preserve the essence of every performance.
Their holistic approach stood out during our visit. It’s a one-stop shop for building your artistic brand. Their services span everything from photography and graphic design to website creation and custom song production.
We even spoke with a few artists who loved how seamlessly they could pull their entire project together here. The convenience of handling everything in-house really saves time while ensuring the final product feels cohesive.
The recording process is surprisingly smooth, too. We watched as the team seamlessly integrated beats from different sources. It left the artists free to focus on their craft without worrying about the technical stuff.
And their online booking system? It’s as user-friendly as it gets—ideal for busy artists who don’t have time to play email tag. We also tested their chat feature and noticed it can sometimes take a while to get a response.
Features a patient and talented producer/beat maker
“New in Montréal & checked out 3 Studios before finally we decided to work here. The Producer/ Beat Maker was patient & Talented. NydsCREW songs have gotten great professional touch here. MakeWay is a place to be if satisfaction is what you out for.”

5. Toosik Studios
Location: 111 Rue Chabanel O
Contact: You may contact them here
Operating hours: Open 24 hours
Toosik Studios left us with mixed feelings—but mainly in the best way. The space is inviting, with a warm and professional atmosphere that encourages creativity without feeling too rigid.
Their state-of-the-art setup, like the top-tier microphones and expertly tuned acoustics, deliver polished recordings. We saw firsthand how these features contribute to the studio’s high-quality output.
Their services are comprehensive—mixing, recording, and even composition. We talked to a few clients who appreciated how hands-on the team is. They made sure every detail of a track was just right.
Their remote mixing and mastering options are a great addition for artists who can’t visit in person. However, the pricing reflects the premium quality of these services. Their rates might stretch smaller budgets.
Impresses listeners with high-quality recording and mixing
“First experience with Toosik Stuidos! It was remarkable! A big Big-up! I shared an excerpt and I can tell you that my listeners were impressed with the recording and the mix. Thanks again 🙂 ! see you soon.”
