The 12 best terrasses in Montreal to enjoy any time of the year

Ah, summer – the time when the snow’s finally melted, and the weather is finally nice and airy.

And, of course, what better way to soak in the season than by unwinding with friends on a sun-dappled terrasse with amazing cocktails on the side and the most mouth-watering food you’ll ever taste?

So after weeks of dining and a few food-induced comas, I curated the best terrasses in Montreal that’ll have you coming back many, many times – from summer to basically any time of the year when the weather is right.

I’ve made sure these options are worth the penny and not just parking lot chic.

So if you want to experience the sun with amazing food or soak in the views, all you have to do is dive into this list.

1. Taverne Atlantic

Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 4:00 PM – 1:00 AM

Price: $$

Taverne Atlantic is the kind of terrasse spot that’ll make you want to linger all evening, especially during sunset. The ambience is industrial chic, accented by lush greenery and 1950s-inspired touches, making it perfect for a chill night out with friends.

The pizzas here are the best. They have a perfectly crisp crust topped with fresh, earthy mushrooms and a drizzle of truffle oil for the champi. Or order the gigi, which bursts with zesty tomato sauce and creamy mozzarella.

If you’re in the mood for something classic, their poutine won’t let you down. It has crispy fries, cheese curds, and rich gravy with an optional topping of griot pork.

Finally, drown it all down with the beers they have on tap. But if beer isn’t your thing, their natural wine might be some of the best you’ll ever have – at least in Montreal.

2. Benelux

Price: $$

Benelux has this nice outdoor seating that’s spacious, dog-friendly, and perfect for soaking up the summer vibes with friends. It has a more relaxed feel, with just the right mix of lively conversation and good music.

Known for its wide variety of craft beers, this brewpub has something for a nice afternoon sip.

Their Cactus beer is a crowd favourite. Its refreshing, slightly tangy flavour is ideal for a warm day.

Apart from beer, their bretzel is also a must-try. It’s a soft, golden pretzel served with a curried mustard dip. It’s also big enough to share, though you might want one all to yourself after the first bite.

And here’s a tip: locals swear the bretzel pairs well with their DunkelKong beer, so don’t miss the chance to try this winning combo.

3. Le Réservoir

Le Réservoir is the kind of terrasse that keeps you coming back, whether you’re a craft beer aficionado or just looking for a laid-back spot to enjoy amazing food.

Perched above Duluth Street, their terrasse offers fantastic views, making it ideal for a sunny afternoon.

Plus, the beer here is nothing short of phenomenal. Their NEIPA is hazy, fruity, and just the right amount of bitterness to keep it refreshing. If you’re into something more robust, the milk stout is smooth and velvety – a perfect match for their pub-style tapas.

The spätzle plate is another must-try, but even their roasted curry cauliflower feels like a treat. I also love that the portions are generous and great for sharing.

And don’t skip dessert either – their tiramisu cake is as decadent as it sounds, especially when paired with a coffee-flavoured stout.

4. Romies

Address: 465 McGill St

Contact Details: +1 514-312-1778

Operating Hours: Tuesday – Saturday: 5:30 PM – 11:00 PM

Romies is one of those terrasses that feels like a hidden gem in Montreal. Unlike many spots, this one’s rarely overcrowded, creating an ambience that’s inviting and cosy.

The food here is as unforgettable as its setting. Start with the crispy, golden, and well-seasoned zucchini chips.

The grilled peppers are another favourite for their smoky, slightly charred flavour that has a touch of sweetness.

For your main, don’t miss the charcoal-grilled. It has a subtle smoky flavour and is served with tender eggplant medallions and fresh peas.

For dessert, cheesecake ice cream is a must-try. It has a rich, creamy texture and just the right hint of tanginess. For something more indulgent, the Brooklyn Blackout Cake is perfect for chocolate lovers.

5. Maison Boulud

Maison Boulud at the Ritz-Carlton offers fine dining with an elegant garden backdrop. It’s an ideal spot for a leisurely meal, whether you’re there for brunch or dinner – as long as you’re willing to splurge too.

For the main, the sea bass is a good option. It’s seared with a golden crust and served on a bed of creamy, herbaceous risotto.

If you’re looking for something richer, the duck is one of the best choices – it’s tender and flavourful and has just the right portions.

For the sweet treat, the chocolate coolant is downright amazing. It’s a molten cake paired with silky dulce de leche ice cream.

And if chocolate isn’t your thing, the freshly baked Madeleines are a lovely alternative if you prefer something more citrusy.

6. Boxermans

Located in Montreal’s Mile End, Boxermans has an upscale feel balanced by a relaxed and cool vibe that makes it a great spot for casual meetups. The back patio is peaceful and ideal for soaking up the evening as you enjoy good food.

Their menu features small sharing plates so you can taste a bit of everything. In fact, patrons love the scallops. They’re tender, buttery, and served with a zesty citrus vinaigrette.

The anchovies with raspberries might sound unconventional, but the combination of briny saltiness and fruity sweetness works surprisingly well.

But that’s not all. Their extensive natural wine list is also a dream for wine lovers, thanks to knowledgeable staff ready to help you pick the perfect pairing.

And if cocktails are more your style, their mixologists’ work can also whip up new creations based on your tastes.

7. Rose Orange

Operating Hours: Monday – Saturday: 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Rose Orange is a rooftop terrasse that boasts a breathtaking view of the city from the 44th floor of Place Ville Marie. If you’re planning to visit, make sure to go during sunset because the sight itself will make your heart full.

Now, when it comes to drinks, you can start with the spicy margarita for a bold kick of flavour.

But if tequila isn’t your thing, their cocktail menu features plenty of other options, from fruity sippers to more spirit-forward blends. With prices starting at $15, it’s a reasonable indulgence, given the upscale ambience.

The food menu focuses on light bites, with beautifully plated charcuterie boards that are perfect for sharing.

However, it’s worth noting that the ambience during the day might feel less cosy compared to other spots, as the music tends to be a bit loud.

8. Brasserie Bernard

Brasserie Bernard is an excellent choice for a delicious meal in Montreal, especially if you want a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. Whether you’re there for brunch or dinner, the food never disappoints.

For starters, the oysters are incredibly fresh. Their briny flavour sets a nice tone for the main meal ahead.

The octopus is another standout dish. It’s cooked to tender perfection and paired with olives and tomatoes, adding a touch of Mediterranean flair.

The hanger steak is a fantastic choice if you’re in the mood for something hearty. It’s served with rich and creamy mashed potatoes, leaving you wishing for a larger portion – though it might be just the right size if you’re saving room for dessert.

Located near Jeanne-Mance Park, the terrasse at La Fabrique is perfect for enjoying the city’s afternoon charm (and people-watching, if that’s your thing).

But beyond the place, it’s the food that’s a real treat, with everything from brunch to hearty meals.

If brunch is your favourite, you can’t go wrong with their French toast. It’s crispy on the outside, perfectly fluffy on the inside, and topped with seasonal fruit that adds just the right touch of sweetness.

For a heavier meal, try the brisket sandwich. The tender brisket is paired with a toasted bun and crispy duck-fat fries on the side.

But if you’re after a lighter option, you may want to try their salmon tartare. It’s ideal for a smaller portion or for sharing if you’d like to sample a variety of dishes with friends.

10. Restaurant Bivouac

Price: $$

Perched just above Complexe Desjardins and connecting to the Hilton, Bivouac offers a rooftop terrasse experience that’s quite hard to beat. The view of downtown Montreal is stunning, especially as the evening sets in and the city lights twinkle below.

But apart from the sights, the food here also impresses. For appetisers, you can start with their Boreal toast – juicy cherry tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, a drizzle of tangy balsamic, and bright basil pesto. It’s like a fresh take on a classic Caprese salad.

For mains, the mackerel and the risotto are showstoppers. Sharing these dishes is a great idea, as the risotto’s creamy texture can feel a bit heavy on its own. However, when paired with the mackerel, it strikes a perfect balance of flavours and textures.

As for the portions, they are just right – enough to satisfy without leaving you overly stuffed.

11. La Croissanterie Figaro

Craving a little slice of Paris without ever leaving the city? La Croissanterie Figaro might just be what you’re looking for.

Located at the corner of Hutchison and Fairmount, this cafe captures the charm of a classic French bistro, perfect for soaking up the sun while enjoying coffee.

If you’re visiting for lunch or a late-night bite, don’t miss the quiche à la provençale. This savoury slice is packed with fresh vegetables and herbs for a proper meal.

To complement it, consider pairing the quiche with a side salad tossed in their house vinaigrette to elevate the flavours.

Should you prefer a lighter choice, their smoked salmon bagel is one of the best. The bagel is generously layered with silky salmon slices and served with all the fixing. It’s simple, but with a cup of coffee, we think you won’t be asking for more.

12. Café Santropol

Website: https://www.santropol.com/

Address: 3990 Rue Saint-Urbain

Contact Details: +1 514-842-3110

Operating Hours: Wednesday – Sunday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Price: $$

Café Santropol has a lush atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re stepping into somebody’s backyard home. It feels like a hidden gem from the city, though you’ll definitely catch a crowd there, especially in the afternoons.

Their sandwiches are the real stars of the menu as they really don’t skimp on flavour. The Duluth Sandwich is a must-try, with its layers of caramelised onions, sharp cheddar, and sweet pears packed between pillowy fresh bread.

Café Santropol also caters to vegan and vegetarian diners, so there’s something for everyone. Their homemade chilli is definitely worth lining up for, thanks to its rich and perfectly spiced profile (don’t worry – it won’t burn your mouth!).

For dessert, the apple cheddar scone is a delightful finish to any meal. We highly recommend you get it – you won’t regret going for one (or even two cones!) even after your main is done.
